Sam, a manifestation from Xanathar’s dreams, is no ordinary gazer. It has an Intelligence of 8 and can understand and converse in Common. Its position as sewer gate guard is not a source of pride. Still, it takes its job seriously and suffers no foolishness. Sam habitually mimics voices it hears, repeating back questions in a high-pitched voice. It’s not intentionally mocking the characters, but…

As Davil shared, the only way to negotiate past Sam is to make it feel paranoid, which requires a successful DC 10 Charisma (Intimidation or Persuasion) check. Allow the characters to come up with any story they want; Sam is a shallow thinker, so it’s more about their commitment and less about the details. Some examples include:
Magic Items for Starting Characters If you’re starting a campaign for characters above level 1, “ Creating a Character ” offers suggestions for how many magic items such characters should start with and the rarity of those items. Consider these approaches to determining the items each character receives: DM Choice: Choose items for each character using your own judgment. Player Choice: Let the…
Past the gate, the characters enter a rough-hewn passage about 100 feet long, lined with torches that glow with Continual Flame. Nothing happens as they pass through it, but this area becomes important during the “ Escape ” section of this adventure, so be sure to describe it in detail. At the end of the passage is an incongruously elegant wooden door with the name of the club inscribed on it.…

Most of Graywall is designed for the comfort of orcs and ogres, creatures of medium and large size. However, a significant portion of Droaam’s population and workforce are goblins and kobolds. Ogres perform heavy labor and orcs work in the quarries and mines, but it’s the goblins who perform much of the more delicate work; goblins serve as carpenters, tailors, potters, painters, custodians, and…
