what counts as an external link? I am making a homebrew monster and it says it cannot be shared because it contains external links in the text. I don't believe there are any links to off site stuff and certainly didn't put them in on purpose. There is only the highlighted text that brings up info on spells and effects, but other homebrew have those. I did copy paste some stuff to save time but, none of it had an outside link that I can see.
there are no hyperlinks or anything in the text to my knowledge. I had no intention of putting any in and didn't purposely do so.
All I did was take the adult green dragon as a base. Added abilities and spells from the mind flayer. and then i rewrote the flavour text and changed the names.
It references spells and conditions, but most homebrew monsters do also have those same style of references so I don't think that's it.
Did you copy and paste things containing 'tagged' stuff (things that bring a popup when you hover over them like using monster tag to make adult green dragon)? If you copy and paste it turns it into a link. If you did, edit this to remove this bit and re-input using tags.
These tags are coverted into links with special code to create the popup. When you copy and paste you do so with the link not the tags.

Question, are you saying that tags in general aren't allowed in homebrew or that the creator should retype the tags themselves?
The "tags" are tooltips like [monster ]dire wolf[ /monster] (without spaces), which get converted into links when displayed. If you copy-paste from something else, you'll get the links, not the tooltip square-brackets. That's why you'll need to retype the tooltips.
Hey y'all! I recently made a homebrew race for a warforged minotaur, mainly because I didn't want to spend thirty mins explaining what it could do, and so others could look it up. It says, in red text, "This Race cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons: (in black text) This homebrew Race has text that includes External Links (red text again) Remember, private homebrew is automatically shared with other users in your campaigns and does not need to be shared with the community for players to access.
I don't know what it means by "external links", I changed the profile pic so it shouldn't have and links, and when I looked through the details, the only thing that was highlighted or could serve as a link (as far as I know) was the word unconscious, which just provided a little pop-up for the status condition.
I made this race I combining the warforged and the minotaur and changing some of the details for it to match up, if you wish to view it to double check if I missed anything, here is a link to a campaign I just made, so you can see the homebrew.

That is probably what is giving you the error message. If you copied a blurb from something else that used a tooltip, pasting that into your description box will paste in the actual link to the appropriate thing. But that also triggers the external links error. You'll want to go to that description box and highlight the unconscious link and click the Remove link button in the RTF menu (6th button from the right).
If you then want to add it back using the actual tooltip method, you'll need to add the tags around the word you want to link where it will look like this: unconscious
[condition]unconscious[/condition]
Please note copying the preformatted code above will copy over the underlying html as well. Similar to the problem of copying links, it will carry over to the description box you're pasting it in. I have a habit of pasting copied text in a blank notepad, or even a snippet code window works surprisingly well for this too. Doing that will strip out any underlying html code that your clipboard has in it that you can only see if you view the source after it has been pasted.

By "external" it means external to that specific homebrew. The message could be better worded.
You can have hyperlinks in your homebrew, but doing so will prevent it from being published.

If you know how to help so I can publish it, that would be great!
That little popup thingy is called a tooltip, and that’s probably your culprit. Delete it and replace it with the following without the underscores:
[_condition]unconscious[/condition_]
That👆will generate the tooltip without it counting as an external link.
PS- Don’t publish your race right away. Take time to fully playtest end edit your homebrews prior to publishing them.

Quick fix for anyone running into this issue:
1. Copy paste the entire description into Word.
2. Ctrl+A to select everything.
3. Ctrl+Shift+F9 to automatically remove all hyperlinks (doesn't change text just gets rid of the link functions).
Nice and easy way to just get rid of all hyperlinks.
