I don't have character sheets unlocked in my beta for some reason, but I have a thing that I do on my sheets that would be awesome to have.
So, for anything derived from race, background, classes, etc. - have some way of understanding where they all come from.
Example 1: Languages - My Wood Elf Druid Outsider knows 4 languages. It would be neat to quickly find out where each comes from rather than having to remember.
Common, Elvish (E); Druidic (D); Satyr (O)
Example 2: Skills - Same character has 7 skills - and it would be nice to know which one comes from what choice list in some way.
Same thing for saving throws, skill rankings, spells, etcetera, so it's easy to adjust the math based on a temporary condition, or to know how they're derived - I usually try to have all the bits indicated in some way like this:
I'm not saying that it has to be written out in that exact way, or visible on the sheet at all times, or anything like that - I just want it available somehow, in one place, without having to reconstruct where I got it all from by research or memory. There are a million ways to do it. But it would be really nice.
I'm with the many who have asked for various print options, as well as different variant sheets (different layouts, animal form/companion/familiar sheets, spell cards, table tents, etc.). I also would like a way to save and share characters.
I think the best way to address both of these would be to have some sort of XML export and import. That approach would also allow folks with the right skills to create and share their sheets (for online use or printing) using XSLT. The best of the XSLT sheets could be made available to everyone with permission from the developer(s).
And if the XML format is adopted folks could share the characters with other utilities (such as a VTT). You might want to look at other existing programs out there as a starting point for the format. For example, the XML format from HeroLab or Fantasy Grounds.
And as far as sharing stuff with DMs, etc., players could just export their characters and email/dropbox them to the DM for importing (until you have time to make a more elegant method of sharing). And save their own backups.
Care would need to be taken that later versions of the application can still import and (if necessary) update older versions of the XML files, though.
I've always found that players like to change it up now and again and if the sheet was limited to the class-defined bestiaries it may be too limiting. Great starting point perhaps with a built in add on for other beasts/animals/pets/familiars to be added in at a later date.
it would be pretty good if the character sheet could be gradually updated (like once a month or something) to include a tab of Unearthed Arcana stuff, like the Arcanist class for example. It would also be amazing if there was an option for changing some rules based on campaign homebrew in app. For example, I'm about to start a campaign where I'll be more lax about multiclassing prerequisites, if my players could use the app with these more lax rules it would be extremely awesome. Also, the shape shifting tab thing was brilliant!
I think a good compromise between full customization and ease-of-use for casual users may be to have some default templates at launch and then a sheet editor which will let you adjust all kinds of aspects of the character sheet, not just rearranging sections but really the ability to customize every aspect and import assets to do so. These could then be available through the DM's Guild or something for use on DDB. That way users who are not interested in constantly tweaking their sheet never feel like they have to and they can find a sheet that does what they need if necessary, while those who do want unlimited customization have that option, just in a separate interface.
I think itd be also nice if an item or enchantment gave you a buff of some kind the stat would accordingly show that it has a buff on it in case you lose the item.
One that would be nice to have as a DM is the ability to make NPC sheets with an abbreviated version character sheet for those NPC's. Also having the ability to make monster NPC's or Monster cards would be a great aid.
As a DM , it would be great if there were a way to locally (via bluetooth or wifi or nfc ) connect a number of devices , one as a DM device and several others as players , where the DM could manually scroll trough the monster manual ,perhaps modify the stats of monsters a bit(more HP or less , edit the to hit bonus or the DC of a breath weapon), add monsters to the encounter, keep track of initiative and select the abilities of monsters or attacks and target the individual player and roll the damage dice inside of the app ,and then the player could decide weather to use a reaction to do something about the damage or his AC (evasion , uncanny dodge or shield reactions) and the app would automatically reduce his HP or max hp according to the attack or otherwise, perhaps even the app could keep automatic track of spell slots , items or other stuff ,where the DM could also edit or add homebrew items into his/her campaign which would vastly build upon the homebrew "library" section of the app...
I assume that this came to mind someone else too , but when I was looking for something like this I haven't found it so I made this thread ... Comment below if this is a good idea or bad and why you think what you think. :D

I do not know what this signature does for me , but cool , here , I have one one also ... Yey , me cool now ? :D
1. Can we PLEASE have character sheets be buttons. During some kind of game play mode I just want to click "stealth" on my character and have it roll me a number. I want to click "Longsword" and have it say "14 to attack, 7 damage." I want to be able to click "Scorching Ray" and have it tell me attack, damage, and subtract a spell slot. I know stuff can get wacky sometimes, but if you're dealing with metamagic or weird optional modifiers, you could have options show up when you click or just do it like a normal person without special buttons.
2. Can we PLEASE have character creation that prompts us in an appropriate order for what class options we choose? This was done well in the 4e online toolset. I'm tired of terrible tools that make me form fill everything. Pls calculate things for me so I can get to the gameplay.
3. Can we PLEASE have joint DM and player accounts so I can take a look at registered players on my group? I'd love a free option for players. I run a DnD club at school and would love to have an easy way to track players without making them pay.

For people like me who are focused on their character's story I know I would appreciate a dedicated page to character story, story pression, and notes.

P.S. You are all wonderful and I love you.
From what we know so far this will totally be possible on DND Beyond, to have a DM/players relationship over characters. :)

Ooooooo, even better, how about an online portrait generator! It would be SO cool if we could have a few default faces for each race/gender combination and then we can customize their skin tone, hair color, facial hair, etc. It wouldn't have to be full 3D, just a few interchangeable flat images. Maybe have a helmet/hood you can add on. It gets exhausting scouring the internet for the perfect piece of fanart to represent my character, lol
Also, my current wish is for a time table on when the Character Sheets will go live :D

Just because you arbitrarily assign some sort of significance to the bodies of your dead doesn't make me not hungry.
Full AL support. "League" button, which organize all league restriction in simple form: PHB+1, auto raise HP, add logsheet. If are character have possible dispute options (like are wish, or luck blade), he can see league restriction on some page with bright red pop-up element. For logsheet add support AL modules (and CCC too) with auto filling "story-award" rewards, and filling that in charsheet. "Story-awards" must have description. I'm really ready pay 5-10$ subscription for this AL support.

Old school knowledge / without all the baggage
What about a short rest button and a long rest button that would auto reset abilities/spells on the character sheet?
Has anyone heard word on if the character sheets will be interactive?
Don't worry, that part hasn't been unlocked for anyone yet. Hopefully soon! *attempts to cast geas on developers*
