My old characters who had the content selected are still using it in the system, so it's clearly still there and you've just gated it off.
Please undo this. Some of us like the old versions and are still using them in our campaigns.
I don't care that you have branded it as "UA" (a brand it lacked until recently), I paid for wayfinders and it's content, I would appreciate not having that taken from me.
They were always UA, they were just renamed UA when a new final version came out. You can use the free UA PDFs to recreate them in homebrew.
The playtest versions were free, when you bought WGtE, you were essentially prepurchasing the final versions. Because a lot of people missed or didn't understand this, DDB is offering refunds. But due to their agreement with WotC, they can't make the UA versions available again.
The Wayfinder's Guide is still available to use and now contains the finalised versions of all races, subraces and variant races
You are not due a refund on Rising from owning WGTE prior, DDB does not currently do refunds/discounts on overlapping content in books. There were no refunds/discounts for the demon lords reprinted from Out of the Abyss in Tome of Foes, or the subclasses from SCAG reprinted in XGTE.
I agree that a refund is not going to happen, though I can see where he's coming from. It's not about reprinted material so much as having access to purchased material as it was initally written and released without any retconning. Such is the downside of digital media. WGtE is not UA. It is a published book that people paid real money for. Publishing E:RftLW with updated versions of races and classes is great and all, but the versions from Wayfinder's should still be accessible to the people that paid for that book.
WGTE was always described as playtest and a living document, but not described visibly enough, as evident by the issues that have arose. It was always going to be non-finalised until a print book came out, and the content listed within subject to change.
It's a case of insufficiency messaging, not WotC making unexpected changes. Maybe they should've gone as far as to have branded the cover art and every page with a "Playtest material, not final" watermark.
Or more importantly, not charged money for playtest material, because that's the real problem here. They can change UA stuff every day for all I care, as it's all "unofficial" and free/optional to use. Once money changes hands, I "own" a copy of that content and should have access to it regardless of future changes. Again, this is downside of all digital media.
Well they can charge money for playtest/living documents all they want. The important thing is ensuring people know what they're potentially paying for. I went in under the (correct) assumption that I wasn't paying for the final product, but instead an early iteration. Many did not go in with that knowledge and thought (incorrectly, through less fault of their own) they were getting a finalised product.
I doubt WotC will attempt this system again, it seemed to be a resounding failure. But I don't think it was from a malicious place, no deception nor bait and switch. They just didn't do enough to ensure people were well informed as to what they were buying.
We realize that the Wayfinder's experiment with early access was a new type of distribution from WotC and lessons were learned. If you are still unsatisfied, feel free to contact our support team to request a refund for WGtE - we are committed to doing right by our customers.
So to make sure I understand the summary of this thread....
Even though I bought the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, it is no longer available for me (or anyone else) to use, even if they didn't buy the new book.
If I (or anyone else) purchase Eberron: Rising from the Last War after buying WGtE, then I am due a refund for WGtE.
Anything else the masses should know?
The masses should know that both these statements aren't true.
If you buy WGtE before or after ERftLW came out, then you will get the official versions of all the eberron content for your purchase.
If you purchased WGtE before ERftLW came out, and you were not clear that WGtE would be updated for no additional cost, and/or you are unsatisfied by the official content, DDB will give you a refund for WGtE.
Personally, I do t want my money back. I want to use the old races
You have to homebrew them. I liked the old races better too (I think only the shifter improved, the rest were nerfed, some hard), but this is what WotC gave us.
So, how do I get the new versions? I paid for the WGtE content, but don’t have the RFtLW versions in their place, and the marketplace seems to want me to pay for them again.

You should already have the new versions in the character builder and race detail pages (just not book compendium).

So would the best thing to do is just make a home brew of race of the old UA WGtE races? Because I think those are much better flavored
You're welcome to homebrew any races or subclasses you like, though please don't publish them if you recreate archived content, as that isn't allowed.

Due to how poorly the WGtE / E:RftLW rollout went, you can actually get a refund for WGtE from Beyond. Per BadEye:

It’s pretty bunk that I have paid for something and can no longe use it. Bad form DnDBeyond.
This wasn't ddb's call, it was wotc's.

If you paid for WtGE, you should have the new versions in the character builder. WtGE's compendium hasn't been update yet, though.
