I have a friend who's never played dnd before, and I agreed to help them create a character. I even created some of my own to show them what the end results should look like. Problem is, I can't find his sheet and he can't see the characters I've whipped up. I have been able to send him a private message, so I guess I have found him, but I'm confused as to what to do from there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You need to create a campaign and have him join it. Any characters you add to it he'll be able to see. Or, if you create a character for him, add it and then unassign it, he'll be able to claim that character to use himself.
and if you want to share without making a campaign, just use the share link. To get to it, click by your character name, then "shareable link in the drop down" and then on "copy link" in the sidebar. Like so:
I gotcha, but there is no way to click on someones profile and browse their character's?
There is currently no way to do that. I prefer the way it is currently now so people can keep their characters private, and if they want to share it, they can just share a link to their character. Most campaigns do not care about character privacy, but there is a small portion of campaigns where character privacy and hiding information is a crucial part of the campaign.
I noticed today that there's an option to set your character to private when creating them. Is there still no way to browse someone's public characters?

Public characters can be viewed by other people in the same campaign with those characters. Private characters can only be seen by their owner and DM.
I just tried to view the character sheets for other characters in a campaign I joined.
In the app, they’re all listed, but tapping on them in the list doesn’t open their character sheets, and I don’t see any other way in the app to view their character sheets. But you CAN do it in a browser.
In the browser, all the characters in the campaign show up in the list with a character sheet icon you can tap to open their character sheet and review it.
I really wish they would add this functionality to the app.

There is no way to browse other people's characters as far as I know. They need to actively share with you their character link.

Is that on the app or browser?
I know you can view them in the browser, don’t have any clue about the app.
