I find myself in a quandary. I'm planning to run Dragon Heist for two groups of players and I'd like to use D&D Beyond for character creation and campaign management. I'm not going to ask them to buy the books they need (my niece and nephew in particular) and I can't share my content with them without giving them access to the adventure too. I think I'll just hold off an wait for the hardback to drop. It sure would be nice to have it in D&D Beyond...

I am doing the same thing for the same reasons. If they want more ppl to purchase this adventure, then they’re going to need to address this first to get my money.
They clearly aren't interested in building this feature, as it was request well over a year ago. As a software developer myself (who specializes in Multi-tenent SaaS platforms) I can objectively say it couldn't possible take more than a month of a single developer's time, and that is assuming a poorly managed code base and abysmal data design.
I don't think of my players as dogs, but there's almost always that one guy who has the adventure-game mentality of looking up "cheats" to optimize a "win." It's a drag because it takes away the opportunity for the other players to solve the puzzles after the initial frustration, which is a feature, not a bug, of puzzle-solving. A lot of the pleasure of Tomb of Annihilation, for example, comes from puzzle-solving.
I look forward to buying more campaign content on this platform when this feature exists.
I think this feature is a no-brainer, but I mean ... you know you can choose not to play with people who "cheat" right?

They really need to implement this. I really want to buy the Legendary Bundle, but I'm not going to unless I can choose to only share the rule books with my players.
It's on the short-term roadmap, so it's coming, just not as soon as many would (understandably!) want. With so many features people want urgently, I don't envy them trying to sort out the prioritizing.
This is a fairly basic requirement for a system like this, and is spoken about like it's actually in the system and working. very disappointing.
Where is it "spoken about like it's actually in the system?" My impression is that they started by focusing on those features most helpful to players; more DM support is coming. I do, however, understand the impatience. I can't say why it wasn't baked in from the beginning, but I'm am sure there are reasons. Whether those of us on the outside would consider them good reasons may be another question, and is also probably highly dependent on who is assessing that. For example, it's not something that I need currently, so it is not high on my priority list. But that's just me.
Running an adventure that the characters don't have an easy option to read has been part of the game since day one. It's why we had a DM's screen as it grew and evolved. I just want the ability to share rules and withhold the story content of modules. It's not that hard.
Asking us to build campaigns full of players within a system that does not allow us to control which resources are shared with those players is kind of conceptually unacceptable. This basic idea of shielding the adventure behind a DM controlled screen is so intrinsic to the history of this game that it's kind of concerning that we're still talking about this implementation this long after after my initial post that started this discussion.
Adding another vote to enable an option to restrict from sharing adventures.
They won't ever add it. They are too busy adding support for mobile apps and twitch overlays that no one wants.
On the contrary: it's on the short term roadmap. And, while I can speak to the twitch overlay, a mobile app was frequently requested on these forums, so to say nobody wants them is a long way from true.
Additionally, the twitch overlay and mobile app are being developed by entirely different development teams, so don't reduce the delivery of website functionality at all.

Given that this feature has been in request for almost two years, I'll believe it when I see it. And I will gladly eat my words then.
I posted about this last year as well, and I wanted to post about it again to reiterate the need. At least we're not still telling people "don't you trust your players, you jerk?" as was the trend back in 2017. The Cyber Monday sale is not enticing given the lack of sharing preferences and it sucks. I want to give you money and you won't prioritizing accommodation for something that is clearly holding back many large purchasers. Not a "nice to have" for people already using the service (likely for free) but something that many, many DMs have asked for since launch. We're the people buying all the content in soft and hard format - give me a release date so I can give you more $$$.

Just want to add my vote to prioritizing this feature... Thanks!

Picked up my first D&D boxed set in '78.

Almost a year later...
Still patiently waiting.

Until then, I'll continue to remain a skeptic.
Or, you know, your curious players innocently browsing through available content and accidentally spoiling plot details for themselves. Or that.
So, as I write this, it's been over a year since this was brought up and I still don't see anyway of locking players out of Adventure content .
Is this something that is going to happen?
Curious minds still want to know... :-)

If you watch the Developer Updates, it is coming, and should be in one of the next bigger releases I believe
