I'm curios to see what people's favorite sorcerer orgin ideas are. We all know the typical "my power was passed down through bloodline", but what is your favorite crazy, fun, or just intriguing idea for how a sorcerer got their powers?
It depends on the world setting and the type of character I'm going for.
I have a homebrew setting where magic is very restricted, because of this the natural flow of magic has started to build up pressure, and in an attempt to relieve that pressure sorcerers are being born (this ties into the two homebrew sorcerers that I've made for those settings).
I have a Dragonborn sorcerer that has a draconic bloodline of a different color dragon that is the result of magical crossbreeding in an attempt to make a purple dragon, (to some degree of success)
I've also become a large fan of the phrase 'Hag magic is weird' as an excuse for literally anything otherwise unexplained.
Sole survivor of a magical storm that left the character shipwrecked on a deserted island
Stole a powerful artifact (the Sword of Law, made it up) from a wizard, who bound it to the character as punishment-- now they have to always obey the letter of the law but have also learned to tap into the power of Mechanus through the Sword.
I've been toying around with the idea of the character just being "the chosen" Not like an "all-powerful chosen one" but like "some ancient sages made a prophecy which manifested in me gaining powers when I was born" or "some deity chose me to be their champion and pushed these powers onto me without my consent"
I mean basically any superhero origin works. Bitten by a radioactive stirge. Potion store robbery went wrong and you were drenched in various potions due to an errant thunderwave. Mother was struck by fey lightning while you were in the womb. A reverse vampire injected you with magical blood.

I used to be a God, but pissed off the other gods. They kicked me out of the club, stole my divine powers, and made the entire world forget I existed.
Wild magic any day of the week for pure fun, but Aberrant Mind from a raw power perspective.
