Just curious, will the site change a lot? I love the character sheets and I've learned the ins and outs of DnD Beyond and don't super wanna learn a new system.

I mean, I am guessing things will change but only because 5th edition is changing. I don't think the product itself will change, but I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see the forums get closed down. This is a personal thought, it hasn't been validated or verified anywhere but that would be my guess.
I highly doubt that they'll get rid of such fundamental things like character sheets though. I also imagine how the site works will basically be the same as it is now. If there will be any such changes, it'll be in 2024 when the new version launches, which would depend on how loosely they used the term "backwards compatible".
The only big things that might change are the D&D adjacent stuff, like this forum. It's just a nice thing that runs alongside and provides practically free customer support (for both the customer and the DDB sides of things). They could remove or substantially alter those without altering the premise of the site.
I wouldn't worry about the core products though, and the stuff DDB sells or provides to support what it'll sell - like the character sheets etc.

Their may be updates with Wizards in charge (I personally hope for some!), but their is not much incentive to rework the whole site, take anything down, or make any really major modifications. It could lose Wizards customers and money.
Yes, the site will probably be slightly "different", but I doubt their will be that many changes that impact our lives as DDB's customers.

Consider this: Does the official WOTC site have forums? Nope. So why would WOTC keep this one going? Clearly, given all the years they had to build their own, and they have not......
But I imagine shutting down these forums is hardly something high on their priority list. There are far more important fish to fry in order to squeeze maximum profit out of this investment, but bottom line, running a forum is a cost centre, not a profit centre. Eventually, all cost centres are given a cold hard look by accountants.
Their's a difference between not bothering to start something, and actively taking something DOWN . The forums are pretty popular, Wizards would only lose things from getting rid of them.

I seem to remember that there were D&D forums back in the day that were taken down. Could be wrong.
Edit: Found it, it was back in 2015:
"Choosing to retire a former foundation of our community was not an easy decision, but we feel that we must adjust our communications structure to reflect where conversations about Wizards of the Coast games are taking place.Social media has changed significantly over the last ten years, and discussions about games aren't exclusive to company-hosted forums. The majority of community conversation takes place on third-party websites (such as Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and many other fantastic community-run websites), and it is up to us to evolve alongside our players. We encourage past and current users to retrieve any information you want to retain from the Community Forums for both Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. The shutdown will occur on October 29, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. PT. We want to provide enough time for our forum members to move their content, and we recognize that given our forum's vibrant user base and extensive history, this may take time. Any information still on the forums on the cut-off date will be deleted.Thank you to all of our past and current forum users. You helped build our community into what it is now, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you on our many active social platforms."
I mean, companies don't just buy another company to simply let it be. Nah they 100% are gonna stick their mitts into how DDB and demand a bunch of their own personal changes.
Seeing as they've canned the WotC forums before, it is definitely on the table. They're gonna can VGM and MToF in less than a week after all. But we don't have too much reason to doom just yet.
From having worked in acquisitions years ago, staff retention is a standard part of acquisition and the people & work process are often more valuable than the product itself.
You're correct that I cannot give exact numbers, and should also be noted that formal close is a few days away - I expect more details to be available after close.
At any rate, to jump back on topic - there are SOME changes to the site upcoming, but only those we've been planning for a while - my team will continue to iterate on design for compendiums and improve where we can. We've got some pretty cool ideas on the backlog currently.
It should be noted that in a transition, it's natural that some that would be thinking about leaving anyway (for a whole range of possible reason) and such a transition would be a natural prompt to do so. I don't think anything should be taken from that "almost" other than being strictly honest. Some will naturally choose to take this opportunity to leave for no reason important to us.
But thank you to Stormknight for communicating with us on this topic!

Why would they change what works?

Just FYI - almost all D&D Beyond staff are moving over to Wizards of the Coast as well.
Personally I'm super excited at the opportunities this affords us to improve the product.
Largely we're going to have more freedom to work on features than before.
With regards forums - zero discussions about getting rid of them.

Probably something they shouldn't have said, and definitely something they can't answer publicly.

No problem. I am very excited about becoming a Wizard myself and we're already discussing some amazing ideas with our new colleagues.
The future of D&D Beyond is looking pretty epic.
Did you enjoy the Monstrous Compendium Vol 1: Spelljammer Creatures we published?
My team loved working on that and are also super excited to be working more closely with the book team.
