"The dead don't mind," Mortaine assured them, and herself. But alas, the dead did mind. One day, unbeknownst to Mortaine, ghouls tracked her home. Her mother and father, exhausted from a day's riding, found their daughter barricaded in the cottage, the monsters clawing at the door. The de Sanges were slaughtered, but the diversion enabled Mortaine to flee. And flee she did, making her way to Elturel, where she was shunned for inviting ruin. Name: Sylvest McScáth Ability Scores: Ability scores: 141315171511 Race: Variant Human Class: Bard 2 (Will be Swords) / Hexblade Warlock 1 Background: Charlatan Backstory: Sylvest is a rambler, a gambler and a long way from home. He left that tiny village in the dust as soon as he could and has never once looked back with nostalgia. With a marked deck of cards in his pack, his grandfather's flute tucked into his vest and his natural born charm and wit he was on to bigger and better things. And he was. Sylvest was able to make quite a life for himself going from town to town, up and down the paths. He learned as many stories as he told, he won far more pots than he lost, and he was careful to not woo too many of the wrong women and totally burn his welcome out of a city. But along the way his flute, of all things, started talking to him... Helpful tips, hints at how to better utilize his abilities... And directing him unerringly to Elturel just before the collapse, and then on to Baldur's Gate... Always one step ahead of death, but always further into the chaos, it seemed. And the 5 year hitch? NAME: Darius Blackstone ABILITY SCORES: 15 STR, 18 DEX, 16 CON, 14 INT, 12 WIS, 12 CHA RACE: Normal Human CLASS: Battle Master Fighter 3 (Two-Weapon Fighting) BACKGROUND: Pirate BACKSTORY:
Darius thought his youth was hard. A stubborn boy with a stubborn, strict father, he thought that running off to sea would be the beginning of a grand new life!
He couldn't have been more wrong.
Once aboard the ship of the Dread Pirate Doomstein, he quickly found himself forced into subjugation by hardened sea criminals who didn't care whether he lived or died. He fought hard... the first couple of days. But eventually had to acknowledge he had no choice but to adapt to this new way of life.
Over time, he learned the ways of sailing, fighting, piracy, and more. Eventually, he found himself an established crewman, and it wasn't until the captain declared his retirement that he realized, not only could he do what he wanted, but he probably could have left years ago. But it was just that... he had nowhere to go, and nothing else to do.
Deciding against taking up a captaincy of his own, Darius decided to try his hand at adventuring. Perhaps with a few treasure chests full of gold, and a bit of renown, he could return back to his hometown as something other than a COMPLETE lost cause....

Race: Half Wood Elf (see racial ability modifiers above) Class: Hexblade Warlock (2) / Bard - College of Eloquence planned (1 and onward) Background and Backstory: See (first) spoiler here.
Background: Faction Agent (Harpers)
Childhood: Youngest child of a minor noble family. An afterthought. As a child, Lyra once found a small, strange dull black musical instrument. A harmonica. She keeps it with her always and plays brief, strange haunting chords on it whenever she casts a spell or inspires someone. There is something unearthly about it, not of this plane of existence. Stains her lips like dark lipstick. The harmonica is an artifact of Shadowfell and the mythical Raven Queen, who has now bonded Lyra for life whether or not Lyra fully knows it (or wants it).
The majority of the time, Lyra can charm her way out of anything. 95% of the time, she truly believes she can charm her way out of anything, whether true or not. 99% of the time: will... not... shut... up. One day maybe someone will set her straight. Probably not, though.
Pretty, though she has always relied more on her words than her looks. Not above using her looks, though.
Career thus far: Lyra ran off from her elven mother's home near Silverymoon as soon as she was of age. Bound for the City of Splendors, Waterdeep. She was quickly recruited by a fellow adventurer into the Harpers, first as an asset and soon as a full-fledged Faction Agent. This is her first assignment outside of Waterdeep, sent to infiltrate the Flaming Fist in Baldur's Gate but caught up in the chaos of recent events in the area. The only message she has received from her contacts is to stick with the mission and gather as much information as possible - on the Flaming Fist, or on other... occurrences.

Name: Malky Noree Race: Gnome Class: Artificer Background: Archaeologist Backstory: Though most rock gnomes have a talent for tinkering, Malky had always been curious about how previous generations went about it, and thus began his career exploring ancient ruins and museums. One day he found himself in an ancient, now empty, treasure horde left by the Tyrant of years past. While wandering around and re-examining the carvings and notes on the walls, he, rather literally, stumbled through a door that had been hidden for centuries. Inside was only a single suit of armor, but one which he was able to, somehow, understand how to don, and then operate. With his new armor, Malky headed back to to do more research on what this ancient marvel would be capable of.

Malcus led a fairly ordinary life - following in his father’s steps as he joined the military. His size and skill with a greatsword gave him many different appointments in his military career. However, it was during an assignment as protection detail for the Moradin order, that his path took a turn.
While accompanying a certain leader, he was caught off guard and injured by the followers of a man they were ordered to detain. As he lay on the ground, clasping his head with his hands (his blood pooling on the ground), this leader - a man he thought to be an enemy - showed him mercy. This cleric of Lathander healed his wound and went willingly with them as their prisoner.
Malcus never saw the Cleric again, but in that moment felt that he wanted to live more like that man - showing mercy to others as he was shown mercy. He began the Paladin Oath of Devotion to Lathander, the god of birth and renewal - using his sword to give others a second chance.
Malcus has made a secret pact to himself (which is a constant internal struggle) that he will not take a life, but will give his enemies the opportunity to start a new path. He continues to rationalize his decisions based on a creature‘s nature - as he asks himself, “is this creature capable of good?” He continually finds his role as guard/police/soldier to be at odds with his path of redemption.
It is in the midst of this inner conflict that he finds himself as he puts in his time with the Flaming Fist. He will try to do as much good as possible within this hellish existence…
