Welcome to the world of Beruvia! Her lands are diverse, encompassing mountains, jungles and deserts. Magic flows through the land, the air teeming with it’s raw energy, but is only noticeable to those with the talent enough to weave spells from it.
The Kingdom of Athetome is a fertile, rich country, flanked by two mountain ranges to the north and south, each containing mineral wealth for those eager or foolish enough to risk the perilous journey through the summits.
The Elves, blessed with supreme magical ability, rule over this land, ensuring peace through the realm. However, the Humans, whose long ships beached on the shores only a couple of centuries ago, toil away at grueling lives, always regarded as below their elven counterparts. The other folk- gnomes, halflings, tieflings, don’t have it much better. The dwarves reside in their own kingdom in the northern mountains, but often travel to Athetome for commerce and tourism.
But alas, the force of change is coming upon the timeless elves. Whispers of revolution are beginning to circulate among the underbelly of society. Meanwhile, tribes of orcs and goblinoids are migrating in droves past the outer borders, raiding and pillaging the outskirts of the country. Our adventure shall take place during these tumultuous times..
About the DM:
I’ve been playing D&D for about 3 years as a player and DM. I’ve ran this campaign three times at this point, so I feel pretty confident about it, but I am new to PbP.
I love the story-aspect of D&D, but I enjoy running combat too. I won’t be too uptight about the realism aspect, but understand this: you have a very real possibility of dying in this adventure. Your enemies are not stupid- they will use appropriate tactics to try to defeat you. That being said, I welcome any creativity you might conjure during the adventure- The Rule of Cool applies always.
Rules:
We will be playing with inspiration and experience points. I will be rolling initiative and saves as well track the result of passive checks. The only exception is for death saving throws, where you get to roll. Most importantly, we will be playing with a variation of initiative.
Everyone rolls initiative as normal and I will roll once for the monsters. Players who roll higher than the monsters get to go first, in any order. Once they have all taken their turn, combat continues identical to the Side Initiative rule on DMG pg. 270, with monsters and player sides taking turns and acting in any order they choose. I’m also considering the possibility of posting the monster’s AC and health as well, so if you roll, you know if you’ve hit and you can describe however you see fit. I don’t see many other people doing this, so do you have any thoughts in the comments?
Again, please post/check in twice a day. From my limited understanding of Play by Post, players not checking in causes the death of most games. We’ll be using this thread if you have any out of character questions, or just want to chit chat. If you’re planning to take a break for a few days, please post that too in this thread. Also, I’m not that familiar with the format but I know some of you have been doing this for years. If I’m doing anything wrong or if you have any tips for me, please PM me.
Please finish your character sheets and flesh out your backstories with the new world information. If you want some more specific background info, please PM me and I’ll be happy to provide. I don’t own any editions digitally, so you’ll have to go with the Basic Rules unless anyone is willing to sponsor the group.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’m excited to dive into the game and start playing. When everyone has finished reading and PM me that they understand my rules and send me their character sheets and backstories, we’ll get going.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll only use this forum for big questions like rules clarifications. Also, if you plan to miss a few days, post in this thread.

I thought that if we brought him along, he should be a full-fledged character who fights and stuff. Retainers, at least the ones in the noble background, don't fight, don't travel to dangerous areas. What would even be cooler would be to have him level up with the rest of you, and eventually gain character classes.

I found the OOC thread. *forehead* I would like to see where this goes. The mechanics are up to you as well as weather or not he even agrees. I saw an opportunity and had to at least try lol Just keep in mind, Zee would recruit a raccoon if he could. He just might some day.

I generally prefer OOC in the thread itself, at least when it’s small questions related to what’s currently going on.

I agree as well.
Thoroughly enjoying myself in the campaign. Everyone seems really active as well. That's always great!
No complaints from me either. Great idea for starting the campaign this way.

I'm very happy to be part of this campaign! I'm eager to find out what comes next.
I have no objections to bringing him along. Maybe treat him as a NPC retainer or something like that.
