Toots Wheat: Mark of Hospitality Halfling, Lore Bard 6, Divine Soul Sorcerer 1
Toots grew up on the mean streets of the citadel city known as Cliffside. There she learned to apply her talents towards the lucrative profession of entertaining others. In the citadels, escapism is the most valuable drug, and stories let people escape....
*Toots is a bard of bards. She prefers the good life: food, whine, fine clothes and finer company. And she does what she does to make sure she gets to keep that lifestyle, or at least a comfortable one. She stands at 3’ 5”, with tan skin, brown hair, and hazel eyes that always seem to flash with mischief. And she has one hell of a fashion sense.*
(I tend to use parentheses to denote what I as a player say, quotes for what my character says, and asterisks to denote character actions and other stage directions.)
As a well known group of Waywatchers, you have been hired to go to the Outside. The centennial scouting mission has not returned, but the royals of cliffside have decided that they want you go out into the unknown as well. Your initial thoughts are of a search and rescue mission. They tell you that the scouts are an inconsequential detail. They want you to recover a few valuable items that have gone missing. You are given a small 200 gp voucher to secure your services and a map of the outer world.
The blah blah
The trip to the main protective door that guarded the city of Cliffside was no easy jaunt over the hills and through the woods. Although there were hills of sorts, and woods of sorts. It started with the main walls around the city.
A triple ring of consecutively taller and thicker walls surrounded the city in an arc stretching from one wall of the grand cavern, around the urban center, to another wall of the cavern. High towers, each a small, self-sufficient, strong-point gave additional support to the walls. High above the rings, hanging from the ceiling were the fortress academies of the seven schools of magic. Each school, built upon and within gigantic stalactites, provided arcane education and defense against aerial threats.
Some bit of urban sprawl spread beyond the walls as the population grew. Most of the structures were houses of those that worked the various fungus farms, and other buildings for services that supported them. A winding road ran through the mushroom forest before entering the maze of passages leading to the outside.
Our friends picked up a guide sprite to show them the way. They could have saved a bit of coin, but without a guide, they would have been hopelessly lost. They followed the little, green, bouncing light past the Guardians of Stone and Flame; carved to resemble creatures of legend; said to come alive if a threat got this far, through the Cavern of Souls, over the Bridges of Peace, down Barlo’s Ramp, to the outpost before The Great Barrier Against The Foulest of All Things Evil. The officer in charge inspected their passes, shook his head, and called up a formation of soldiers. Maginos, Tommary, Hawksley, Oethe, Taslyn, and Elyona waited patiently then heard the soft scamper of feet behind them as Toots trotted up panting and smiling. The sergeant shouted orders.
“Guard, Up!” With a clash of boots, the men and women formed a living wall of locked shields and razor edged spears facing the The Plug. One would think that a section of rock, twenty feet wide, and ten feet thick would make more noise as it moved, but in a marvel of Dwarven engineering, there was only a low hum. Blue runes of strength and endurance glowed along the edges of the enchanted stone as it slowly pulled back and in, to clear the way to the outdoors. “Good luck.” The officer waved the group through, shaking his head again, fools, who would want to go out there?
After weeks of travel you stand outside a small sheltering cave that a villager has guided you to. It is deep and dry enough to secure yourselves and your mounts. It is apparent that this cave has been used before as there are some provisions still present and a place for a fire. While investigating the supplies, you find two oilskin wrapped bundles bound in twine.
The bundles contain a rod and a bag. “If you’re reading this, take them for I have died, hopefully while doing the right thing.”
Delick the villager has agreed to watch and feed the mounts for a week.
The ever present mists part and you see a conical mountain in the distance.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
You do know each other already. You have been working together as a team doing cavern security as Waywatchers.
Don't worry about provisions, you had enough to get to your location and have whatever you're carrying to carry you through. There is also some left over in the cave although it is a tiny bit moldy. You can take shelter in the cave if you wish, no tents needed.
Track encumbrance but ignore $$ encumbrance.
There was no apparent struggle, just the leavings of an old camp.
I just placed items as two of you didn't choose anything. I could do a random roll on table B or you can keep the rod and the bag.
You can spend the 200 on additional normal equipment. There are only three magic items you can afford with 200.
Boost Potion, +5 speed for 1 minute(only 1 active potion at a time),100 gp
Healing Salve, 1d4+1 healing, bonus action, 100 gp

((OOC: I use asterisks for OOC. It's a habit from the Tavern.))
Elyona rummages through the supplies that were left; if she finds enough foodstuffs still in decent condition, she begins to put together a hot meal for the group. (As a halfling, food is rarely far from her mind.). "Might as well get one good meal in us before we head for that, mountain," she says "assuming that's where we are headed."
*(I like using * for OOC. Thanks for the suggestion.). Since we know each other, we might want to sort out a little bit of how we all get along. Elyona's background is as a folkhero, a blacksmith who became a folk hero when she took up her hammer to defend her community against an attack, then became a WayWatcher. She's a bit of an "odd duck" for a halfling: quite strong, and by halfling (not human) standards clumsy. I would guess that she and Oethe have a fair amount in common, given that Oethe is a forge cleric and Elyona is a blacksmith. She has the protection fighting style, and as a 7th level pally, she has two auras that protect those who are within 10 feet of her. One aura gives a +4 bonus to saving throws, and the other resistance to damage from spells. Oh, and her magic item is a longsword of warning, meaning that no one within 30 feet of me can be surprised as long as she has it on her person/in her possession and she is not incapacitated. I'm assuming we've all worked together enough that those capabilities are known and sharing that isn't "metagaming." She's an out front in the fight kind of gal, but also looking to protect others out front.
Personality-wise, she is friendly and cheerful, especially with non-halflings. (She's a bit more closed with her fellow halflings), She has a strong interest and a bit of a collector of weapons. (Thus, for example, the yklwas)
Halfastbracegirdle, is there a reason why Oerthe isn't visible on the campaign page?
I also not that Tana (Isa79's character) is only 2nd level. Is that intentional?
