So I typically run 2 to 3 scheduled adventures a week in my homebrew settings, on top of that some weeks I run up to 5 one-shots/mini-games to test concepts and encounter ideas. I love running games and making homebrew. But I haven’t gotten to sit on the player side of the DM screen in months and school has just been eating even more of my time up. So here is what I want to know.
1) Joining the local AL game at my preferred FLGS, what should I ask the organizers before I even dust off my dice?
2) If I chose to switch my homebrew games to AL what is the least painful way of transitioning my personal settings (a wuxai and a gothic horror) to the Forgotten Realms as well as a my players custom races?
3) My preference to run games is online, with theatre of the mind, and mostly text based. Is my preferred style compatible with AL or will I need to figure out how maps and tokens work on R20 finally?
4) I understand PHB+1 limits the resources used in character creation. Should I join now or wait tell XGE drops to keep from splitting my playing between two characters?
Thank you kindly to anyone who read the entirety of this. Doubly so to anyone who may have a answer or two.

4) +1 is chosen as soon as a player selects a character feature from a non PHB source (excluding backgrounds) and cannot be changed starting at level 5. Players are allowed to rewrite their characters between level 1-4 including their +1 choice. Only thing they cannot rewrite is their character name. That is locked in as soon as they've played at least one game with it.
Thank you for the answers! I will probably be contacting the FLGS this week.

I thought up some more questions! This is why I annoy my teachers I think.
Anyway, if I am running AL online via R20/Discord, TotM, text-based, or running any AL I suppose can I go back and run the previous seasons or should I stick to the current season? One of my regular players is a huge fan of the Ravenloft setting and I am sure that starting in that season would be more palatable to him.
Also, does anyone have a decent guide for how to use maps and tokens in R20? I've poked at it a few times but never really made much headway.

As AL is very restrictive with rules, you won't be able to convert existing homebrew characters over - all characters need to start at level 1.
AL adventures can be played in any order. You could do an adventure for season 2, then 5, then one for the current season, go run Forge of Fury, back to season 1, then STK. The only rule that stops characters from swapping between things is the Season 4 feature when characters are trapped in Barovia until they are able to get free.
AL can be done online or in person - the main thing is to ensure you are following the AL rules, and everyone is logging what their characters are doing. This way they can port their characters between games/DMs.
Thank you kindly, I've got the series loaded up for watching on my breaks.

2) Sorry to be unhelpful, but the least painful way to transition homebrew to AL is, almost definitely, to not even try.
3) AL is, to the best of my knowledge, strictly in-person.
I'm probably exactly the wrong person to ask about AL, though.

Tooltips (Help/aid)
1) "Is a game available for my level 1 character?" (Assuming you're new to AL)
2) What Matthias said. Only approved content is allowed for AL.
3) AL can be played online. So long as the rules are followed.
Free DM Pack
Free Player's Pack

For Roll20, I learnt by reading their forums and watching some of the guides people have done on YouTube - there are a series done by Taking20 that I'd recommend watching - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4ihyL-PTq4N5DRmy72zCqD1eQhnqaCTp
