Hey everyone, i have been playing pathfinder we recently and one of the things I really like about it is the recall knowledge check. I was thinking of adding something like this for 5e. My thoughts were it could be a bonus action that recharges on a short rest. I'm also not sure how to determine the DC for the checks. Players would be able to ask 1 question, such as lowest saving throw, a resistance, weakness etc.
Alternatively I could also make it a feat that simply gives that bonus action and can be used until a failure against a creature or something similar.
Was hoping to get people's thoughts on this, how they would go about building this, and especially what numbers to use for the checks.
I tend to give a baseline level of info simply for having a skill proficiency, past experiences, class, subclass, or background themes adjacent to the subject. If they want to know more than that, they can roll.
When it comes to monster knowledge, I've tried a few mechanics but my group always gravitates back to free action checks. Bonus actions can be tricky because they are much more valuable for some classes than others.
Ultimately its info that I want them to have because I tend to run harder monsters that have vulnerabilities or weak spots. So just in a general sense, if I want them to know something I don't gate it behind a difficult check. It may depend on how freely you want to give this info or whether you want it to be something anyone can do as opposed to a reward for someone's particular focus or specialization.

I just call for a History check to see if they remember something and the higher they roll the more/better info they remember.
