"I was born an orc in an orc settlement, but soon, I developed strong sorceress powers. When my parents realized I had these powers, they told the leader of the small settlement, and he said I had to make use of my ability and spread my name and the name of my clan through out the world. So here I am."

I'll poach this one form a character idea for a bladesinger I had a while back:
Silence is an old/very old Elf, she has spent more years than most humans live for in quiet seclusion studying and meditating on the nature of magic and blade craft, her Weapon of choice is a rapier and she refers to her bladesinging style as the Stirge Form. She isn’t mute but instead chooses to speak only when needed and lives by the motto “we have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we speak”. Civilisation seems a bit too hectic and crowded for her but now her hermitage has ended she feels the need to expose herself to new things in order to grow as a wizard.
I was born half-vampire half human, and though I never met her, I inherited some of my mothers vampiric "gifts." From the day I was born, I hated these features and just wanted to be normal. But it was pretty obvious to me, normal was never an option. So here I am, using my dhampir traits and ability with a sword to make some change for the better in this world.
The day after I graduated from the Waterdeep Institute of Advanced Gastronomy and Culinary Art, I signed up for service in the Long Road Patrol, seeking a bit of adventure to spice up my life. I'm a bit pudgy, as is my donkey, Thyme, but I'm as good with a battle axe as I am with a pot. I hope to come home with many a tale, and make my family proud.
Chantenay is easygoing farmer living peacefully at the edge of the feywild, hauling in crops of the best vegetables around. He is enthralled when one day finding a pile of mysterious seeds glowing with chaotic energy at the center of his carrot field. He sets off on a research expedition to discover the properties of these chaos seeds, hoping to tame and cultivate them into an allmighty superfood.
alchemist/Druid, spells and magic items being reflavored as vegetables, with the seeds acting as spell slots which replenish every long rest.
Hello, I am from hell, but stuck in Fayroon with bunch of idiot goody people. I make best friend who is exempt from my cruelty, but I want go home. I like moneyboys, write poem and make torture when friend say is OK.
"I was raised to be a peerless samurai warrior, armed and trained to strike down the unspeakable evil unleashed on our lands. But before the final blow was struck, the fiend tore open a portal in time and flung me into the future, where his evil is law. Now I seek to return to the past and undo the evil that is Aku."
That sound pretty good. Aku cute big boy? I tired of goody people allwheres, buhh...
Guy La Vache is a goblin who was adopted at a young age by an ageing paladin after an adventuring party left him orphaned. Though trained extensively in martial combat Guy has never needed to put his skills to the test until now. Guy's aged mentor has gone missing while investigating a criminal known only as "The Dentist".
I was once a servant to a great mage, some would call me a slave and my master a madman but I prefer to think of myself as loyal and my master as simply misguided. My master strove to create life and I aided him as best I was able, his experiment was successful but his creation killed my master and went on a rampage before escaping the city and vanishing into the wilds. I now hunt this creation but all investigations to its whereabouts have gone cold so now I must wait and watch and be ready for when acounts of it resurface.
*this is really the backstory of Igor hunting down Frankensteins monster if the Monster killed the Doctor Frankenstein. Porbably going for a low charisma Ranger/Monster Slayer with Constructs as a favoured enemy.

Power..Unlimited Power...that is what I sought and what I almost attained but like sand falling between my fingers the magics unravelled and left me depleted and almost dead. I carry this fractured thing now, this gem that I poured my power into, I feel some of that power linger in its depths and I can pull it free but not in the grandiose ways I was accustomed to. I was to be a Lich, a spell caster supreme and now? Now I am nothing, a broken individual with a broken phylactary.
*a little bit of inspiration taken from another thread and a certain quest from elder scrolls skyrim. Basically the character was a level 20 wizard trying to be a lich, the ritual failed and the character is now a level 1 warlock. The would be phylactary is now a lantern sized gem and the power it holds serves as the Warlcoks patron and we're going to homebrew the genie patron a bit to use those subclass abilities so we can bounce in and out of the phylactary. Probably just use the Djinni for most of the option in the subclass and flavour them as more necromaantic in nature, so Thunderwave is more like a poltergiest blasting out of the character, Greater Invisibility tweaked to be more of a ghostform etc. I might also tweak the resistance to damage gained at level 6 to be Cold instead of the Djinni's thunder damage.
You were just one of the townsfolk holding a common trade in a tight-knit community.
After an attack on the town by a lone werewolf that everyone barely managed to dispatch, you found yourself infected with Lycanthropy but not turned, giving you slightly heightened abilities beyond your neighbors' and also some ever-so-slight altered appearance that sets the town on edge when they see you.
After having enough of feeling ostracized by former close friends and neighbors, you ventured out to put your new abilities to use elsewhere, perhaps learning to improve them, too.
People who know the character prior to the werewolf event will recognize an unnerving change in appearance while strangers will not. The Lycanthropy only serves for that plot point and for explaining how a Commoner has adventurer stats. The disease has no other symptoms and no other benefits. Should be fine for level 1. The DM can use the infection and past relationships for story hooks. (ex. Perhaps, someone else was also infected but not so lucky as to only become supercommon but lucky enough to appear completely normal when unchanged, and a hunt began for the innocent disease carrier instead of the actual culprit of monthly murders.)

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
It was a dark and stormy night, when suddenly… a tall, dark stranger rode into my village on a pale, white horse. The dark, mysterious stranger rode straight up to my parents neat, little cottage, dismounted, and rapped sharply on our door. I never heard the conversation he had with my parents, but the next morning I was sent off with the stranger I later came to call Flint, and I apprenticed with him for years before finally making a pact of my own with his master….
It was no small miracle I was even born, let alone that I lived long enough to be counted of age, my mother having been the subject of an assassination attempt while I was still but a small warmth in her middle. I've considered myself a flickering candle, a sizzling fuse of lifeflame, that has just now started to flare and spark wildly, no longer bedridden and sickly, watching from afar as my pater fought for family and friend, achieving glory and renown as a paladin of Pelor and respect and honor as vice guildmaster. Now I join the ranks of the Azure Dawn as a sun all my own, to employ my tinkering talents, my fiery arcane arms, and my carefree love for the present-day with these words; I'm Ephemeral Skye Solbeard, just try and snuff my flame.
Working on a supplement for the adventure-minded. A project including (and crediting) homebrew subclasses from the community, a world of my own design, premade characters, magic items, and even a prologue adventure to start things off!
Past and Current Characters: Morgann 'Duskspear' Solbeard, Hill Dwarf Paladin/Fighter/Warlock; Ephemeral 'Skye' Solbeard, Hill Dwarf Artificer; Zaldrick Lawscrip of Orzhov, Hobgoblin Wizard; Eremys Spydrun, Shadar'kai Monk; Cuchulainn, Wood Elf Blood Hunter.
You began your awareness as a construct known as a Warforged, only obeying what was instructed.
Your creator's dying Wish was to make you into a living person.
After much special effects✨, you awoke fully alive, thinking freely, and no longer a construct in any way and with your creator having passed on from life, leaving you with highly-faded memories of your Warforge skills and no immediate means to provide for yourself.
Perfect for level 1. Having a Warforged origin explains the boost in stats from a Commoner. Any heritage, class, alignment, gender attributes, appearance, etc. except that the character is likely going to be very, very ignorant of cultural matters like etiquette and traditions without anyone to explain such things.

Time… that’s all I needed was enough time to get my family out of the building before it burned to the ground… the one thing I never got was that time…. But I knew who was responsible, McClaritty’s men, those who were pushing everyone they could out of the valley so McClaritty could claim it all for himself. So I took up my grand pappy’s sword and set out to learn the skills and gain the experience I’ll need to cut through McClaritty’s men and eventually cut his black heart out of his chest while it’s still beating and feed it to him.
I am an astral elf. I am different than all the dozen other elves because I am detached, long-lived, can do magic, and better than others at most things. Trust me, we are different somehow.
Note: I could not help myself. Posted as a ‘lol’ in anticipation of the new Spelljammer book. But honestly, I am looking forward to them. No hate.
I was found in a basket in the forest by farmers who kindly took me in. I was only 19 when bandits came in and killed my adopted family in order to steal their goods, they wanted no one left alive to attest to their crimes. But that day, I grew fur and tusks, and though I was not fully a boar, neither was I fully a human. I used my newfound powers to force the bandits to flee, and now I have gone to the nearby city in hopes of finding the bandit gang who destroyed my life, and making them pay for what they did to my family.
