A beastmaster-style character (but actually good) that focuses on cool mounts would be neat. I'm not a big fan of dragons, but the idea is sweet.
It be cool to pick from different mounts. Maybe a Dragon mount, or a Griffon, or a Worg, or a Displacer Beast.....I could spend all day listing off cool creatures to ride into battle on.
That would be sweet. As long as there are aberrations....

I'm guessing not a Black Pudding
Now, think about all the cool things you could do with a pudding! Get absorbed by it, have it climb up a wall, and burst out of it into a guards face.

Well, I would always love more classes based around dragons. A Dragon Warlock and a Dragon Monk especially (Initiate of Draconic Mysteries was an Prestige/paragon class for monks in previous editions). Outside of that though, I'm not entirely sure. I suppose it would be interesting to see Psionic flavors of the other classes like Paladin, Ranger, Barbarian and the like.
I was just about to create a Dragon Otherworldly Patron for the Warlock, and am currently in the process of making a Dragon Rider Martial Archetype for the Fighter. I could see them doing something like the Dragon Rider I'm designing if they bring back Dragonlance, but I don't know how likely that is.
I feel the mounts would have to be draconic creatures, but not actual dragons. Otherwise the balancing would be rather wonky. I could see them using something like the chromatic guard drakes and just upping their size to large and adding metallic options so you can customize the mount. Maybe at higher levels you can have them use a breath weapon or gain the ability to fly. Would be really cool.
I'm currently just making a first draft. It works similarly to the Battlesmith Artificer's Steel Defender. It is a "real" dragon, as you choose its type (any chromatic or metallic dragon), has wings, and a very limited breath weapon. If you've ever read the Inheritance series it works kind of like Eragon and Saphira's bond, but changed to be a bit more balanced in D&D 5e. It starts out as a medium-sized wyrmling and gets larger and more powerful as you level up as a Fighter, getting different stat blocks at later levels.
It's not the real Monster Manual stats for dragons, I kind of combined them to a basic Draconic Companion stat block mixed with how the Steel Defender works, requiring your bonus action to act. It's very much still in the first stages of being created, and will need a lot more work to balance completely, but that's how it works for now.
Anyway, this is mostly off topic, so further discussion on this will probably have to be in a PM or other thread.
I would like something like this to be official in D&D 5e, coming out in an Unearthed Arcana with other draconic subclasses for Barbarian, Druids, Warlock, possibly Cleric, Ranger, Paladin, and others. Dungeons and Dragons should have more options for players to use dragons in their character. I want to play a Blue Dragonborn Dragon Rider Fighter or Winged Kobold Dragonslayer Ranger, for Ao's sakes!

I could see them even doing different subclasses for that. Dragon Riders seem distinct and cool enough in my mind to deserve their own subclass, while Griffons, Worgs, and other creatures could be an exotic cavalier type fighter, ranger, barbarian, or ranger subclass.
I can just imagine a half-orc barbarian riding on the back of a brown bear, a shifter fighter mounted on a dire would, a kenku ranger riding a griffon, or a fallen aasimar paladin riding on the back of a nightmare.

That would be a lot of subclasses. Maybe a feat would work for most, with a couple specialized subclasses for specific creature types?

It could be quite a lot, and some of this can already be accomplished in current rules. There isn't a mounted barbarian or fighter that automatically gets an animal companion, but Beast Masters have animal companions that they can occasionally ride, and paladins have the Find Steed and Find Greater Steed spells. Maybe they could just add a couple subclasses, maybe a few spells as well. I don't think a feat should give a mount, though. That seems too useful most of the time to me.

I actually started working on an Artificer subclass all about mounted combat a while ago. I hit some writers block and back-burnered it for a bit. Maybe I should dust it off again.

I was thinking of something similar, but a Vehiculist. Battlesmiths can mount their Steel Defender if they're a small race, but that is a bit too restricted to fill the whole "mounted artificer" subclass. I really think they should make an Artificer that creates motorcycles and four-wheelers and can control them remotely, but I don't think they will come out with anything like that in the UA anytime soon. Anytime they make a new Artificer subclass they have to reprint the whole class, unfortunately.

They mean this [monster[gloomstalker[/monster]. It's from Critical Role. I think he named them before the subclass came out, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think Matt Mercer had them named in 2017. I'm not entirely sure when the ranger subclass came out though.

The subclass was originally in the Ranger, Revised UA in 2016, but its name was originally the Deep Stalker. It was changed to Gloomstalker in 2017 with Xanathar's Guide to Everything. I'm not sure which came first.
