I think it will have a Psionic Subclass for the Monk, and maybe the Barbarian.
I hope it’ll have a dedicated Psion Class, but I doubt it. 😢
What are your thoughts?
be careful what you wish for
Well, psionics would most certainly work for the Monk & Barbarian...
The spiritual & mental disciplines of the Monk lends itself well to a psionic user...and I could see the sheer, raw psionic release of a Barbarian's "Rage" being flavored in such a way, should they decide to create a subclass for it.
Also, Bard...the "mantles" that the 'ol Mystic class got as features would make for some interesting features in a class that already affects individuals through their performances...you could say that these Bards tapped into psionics to study emotions themselves...pathokinesis, so to speak.
Looping backwards a bit, I do believe it was the Barbarian & Monks who started all these Unearthed Arcana, as well...the "Wild Soul" & "Astral Self", specifically...so it makes sense that they might release two subclasses with those classes, as a finisher of sorts.
I respectfully disagree that a Barbarian -the epitome of chaotic behaviour, who throw themselves recklessly into battle fit a psionic subclass. Psionics is all about discipline and or harmony like the monk as you said. But still a Psionic class would be preferable to a grafted on system that would fit existing classes.

Heh, heh...true enough.
However...!
The world is a chaotic place...maybe a barbarian understands that more than most. Perhaps their psionics merely brings them clarity of this...a release of preconceptions.
And in a multiverse where "Madness" is a holy domain, and there are gods or cults dedicated to tearing down the universe...I dunno; maybe it works more than most.
I'm thinking about a barbarian who was perhaps touched by the Far Realm, as well...a place often associated with madness & psionics. Maybe something from that place wormed its way into the barbarians mind...
Mechanically, I'm thinking something between the old Mystic's "Immortal" discipline, and a bit of GOO-Warlock or Aberrant Sorcerer...a barbarian whose rage unleashes a torrent of psychotic psionics, or whose mental trauma unlocked the potential of the mind.
Their body hardens into an unbreakable substance (a bonus to AC)...advantage on mental saving throws...being able to push & pull enemies (like a blackhole, or telekinesis)...or if an opponent manages to end their rage, they are rebuked by psychic feedback. Stuff like that.
I also get something similar to "Borderlands" psychos...mindless savages who spew confusing-yet-sometimes revealing nonsense.
And Krieg!
A hulking monster who has that little voice in his head that provides clarity...that's an unusual example.
Come to think of it...imagine a psionic barbarian who has a mental construct or voice inside their head that functions similar to "Find Familiar"...except this familiar is always invisible (except to the barbarian), and can be shaped in any way the barbarian prefers...this mental companion is like a barbarian's "anchor" to sanity.
The barbarian can use it to scout ahead, and relay information back to the party...everybody thinks the barbarian is crazy (because they cannot detect or see the psionic-familiar)...but the information the barbarian reveals is always right. ; )
Sort of like a totem, or focus that other, more "disciplined" psionic-themed characters used for meditation.
I think it will have a Psionic Subclass for the Monk, and maybe the Barbarian.

I disagree. I think a Barbarian manifesting their psionic abilities through Rage is just as viable of a narrative. Whereas a Monk would do it through focused discipline, the Barbarian could do it through sheer emotion.
Kinda like how Goku (Monk) achieved Super Sayan through discipline, and Vegeta (Barbarian) literally did it through rage and anger.
In short, Monk and Barbarian are the two classes I think would actually fit as having Psionic Subclasses.
However I do wish there was going to be a pure Psionicist in 5e.
Well I do admit I'm a bit (cough) influenced by second edition and how it was portrayed there. I can admit to my prejudicial views ;) But yeah I can understand a raging manifestation of unbridled psionic energy gone wrong. Like Slaine and his Warp Spasm.
I have been giving it some thought and I have decided that I like that they are reprinting classes/subclasses in T:CoE. That means that I will never need to buy a MtG setting book to get subclasses. I just have to wait a few months for them to be reprinted in a more useful book.
Yeah, as much as I like seeing WotC's ideas for possible subclasses and kind of contributing to their development through the surveys, I think it's a good thing that they haven't made one for awhile to give D&D Beyond's staff time to code for all of the complex changes they need to make for Tasha's.
Any speculation on what could be in the next UA, though? They recently said that they were going to make 3 classic D&D setting books, so subclasses and possibly races for those books are probably likely to be playtested sometime soon-ish. I guess it depends on what settings they're planning on bringing back, but what content do you think could be in the next Unearthed Arcana for these settings?

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
I would like Thri-kreen, Modrons, Mul, Bauriar, and a system for other hybrid races the most, but like a lot of races from previous editions. It's probably unlikely that they'll do UA for these, but one can only hope.
For subclasses, I'm not sure what they could do for some of the settings. Ravenloft is almost definitely coming out, and they already did a UA for those subclasses, and I don't expect to see a second version of them in the UA. Dark Sun would probably just have a reprint of the psionics in TCoE, which I find disappointing, but they could always surprise us with a new psionic class or system (extremely unlikely, though).
Those are the two settings I see most likely to be brought back to 5e, and the last setting is probably going to be Planescape, IMO. I don't know enough about the setting in previous editions to know what subclasses they could make for it, but I could see them doing some other planar subclasses for Druids, Fighters, Monks, Rogues, and Sorcerers. Any thoughts?

Well, I would always love more classes based around dragons. A Dragon Warlock and a Dragon Monk especially (Initiate of Draconic Mysteries was an Prestige/paragon class for monks in previous editions). Outside of that though, I'm not entirely sure. I suppose it would be interesting to see Psionic flavors of the other classes like Paladin, Ranger, Barbarian and the like.

I was just about to create a Dragon Otherworldly Patron for the Warlock, and am currently in the process of making a Dragon Rider Martial Archetype for the Fighter. I could see them doing something like the Dragon Rider I'm designing if they bring back Dragonlance, but I don't know how likely that is.

I feel the mounts would have to be draconic creatures, but not actual dragons. Otherwise the balancing would be rather wonky. I could see them using something like the chromatic guard drakes and just upping their size to large and adding metallic options so you can customize the mount. Maybe at higher levels you can have them use a breath weapon or gain the ability to fly. Would be really cool.

A beastmaster-style character (but actually good) that focuses on cool mounts would be neat. I'm not a big fan of dragons, but the idea is sweet.
It be cool to pick from different mounts. Maybe a Dragon mount, or a Griffon, or a Worg, or a Displacer Beast.....I could spend all day listing off cool creatures to ride into battle on.

Ok so maybe i missed it, but isn't Tasha's Cauldron gonna be on Beyond?...
Cause i can't find it anywhere on the store for pre-order or whatever.

They haven't announced it yet. They will announce it once it's up.

She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Yep. Somewhere around 2 months since Spirits Bard and Undead Warlock. Hopefully some new stuff soon.
I'm hoping they're not releasing any UA because they're so busy making sure the subclasses in Tasha's will be perfect.
Please check out my homebrew and give me feedback!
Subclasses | Races | Spells | Magic Items | Monsters | Feats | Backgrounds
Also maybe giving DnD Beyond a friggin break so they can finish Tasha's!

Probably Subclasses only, because races seem less probable to unbalance
It would be cool to see some UA races though. There are still 4 races I want added to 5e. These are the Thri-kreen, Mul, Wilden, and Shardmind.
