So, according to this article, and this one, we will be getting the announcement of the next two books on the online D&D 2020 Event. There will be an adventure and another campaign setting announced. Yes, that's right. Another campaign setting. Assuming that it comes out in November, we'll have received 4 campaign settings in a year. First, Eberron: Rising from the Last War. Then, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, Mythic Odysseys of Theros, and this mystery campaign setting. So, there's been some speculation that the adventure will take place in Icewind Dale, though I personally think Neverwinter could also be a viable location for this adventure.
So, what do you think these 2 books will be? Where do you think the adventure will take place? What will the villain/plot be? Where will the new setting be?
My personal opinion on this is that the new adventure will be an aberration-based adventure taking place in Neverwinter and that the campaign setting will be Planescape and Xanathar's 2.0 in the same book.

I'd love to see a return to the Planescape setting: add baurier and rogue modrons as PC races and faction affiliation as Backgrounds. Though honestly I think all the focus on psionics we've seen lately indicates that Dark Sun might be more likely.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I know I saw a credible article a few weeks ago stating that D&D is doing better than ever; however are they creating a glut? Will these books start to compete against one another, which is what happened in the 1990s with D&D 2E?
Planescape would make sense as a setting what with all the planar- themed UA coming out while also meeting the setting criteria, but I've also heard way more buzz about Dark Sun. Unless all that buzz is purely speculative, I'd say Dark Sun seems more likely, which I'm a little bummed about since DS doesn't really grab me while Planescape or a Manual of the Planes style Xanathar's 2 kind of book is all I want right now.
I pay less attention to the published adventures since my group mostly homebrews, so I have less to go on for that.
Yeah, I have no idea what the survey results were, but judging from past statements and the way many players are passionate about psionics, I think it would be very foolish of them to release DS without a proper psionics class.

I think either Planescape or Spelljammer would be the most likely new campaign setting. It needs to be something pretty large if they're going to be putting a lot of the new UA in their. If not that, maybe it'll be something like Greyhawk. I'm not sure about the adventure, but each one seems to be centered around certain monster groups (ie dragons, giants, demons, elementals, etc), so I think that something aberration themed is a pretty good shout.

I don't think Dark Sun could come this year. The Psionics UA only recently came out, and I'm not sure it will get the acceptance percentage to pass.

I don't think we will see Class Variants in a Setting book so I guess those will have to wait till next year. I think it will be Planescape.

We've already seen it with Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.

Class variants? I don't think so. We saw. Subclasses but no changea to classes themselves.
I don't see Class Variants in either of those books.
She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
I don’t think they understand the difference between alternative Subclasses and the Class Feature Variants.

The primary reason why I don't think it will be Darksun is because it seems like psionics is still very much a work in progress.
She/Her Player and Dungeon Master
Agreed. I’m betting the plan was DS then Planescape, but I think they have had to switch it around because of Psionics.

I could still see them doing it with the psionic subclasses currently in UA just without the psion main class, but yeah I'd just prefer Planescape.
If they did that I would loose my frikin’ bananas.

Let us hope they are not so foolish....

You wait and see it’ll be another M:tG setting. 🙄
Edit: Actually, if they went WAY retro and gave us a Fallen Empires setting I would frikin’ preorder the crap outta that.

Mmmm, I remember those books having background variants, but I don't recall anything class related other than the subclasses and a handful of spells.
EDIT: Totem Barb did get a couple more options, so there was that.

If it's another M:tG setting, it's going to be Innistrad. Just calling it here.
