Hey there, I hope you are having a wonderful day/night! I am writing this in regards to a campaign that my friend is planning to dm in a couple months. He is implementing a couple house rules like whenever you take a feat you get a +1 ASI, aging, and the biggest rule is we get to pick two subclasses for our class. I had a character idea that I thought would be really cool which is echo knight fighter/Astral self monk. My questions are: - How would you go about leveling this character in an optimized way? - Are there any good revisions of the monk class and the Astral self subclass out there? - What additional fighter and monk subclass would you add to this build? - and Finally for my own curiosity, what character would you create using this two subclass rule?
Thank you for reading this and I hope I posted this in the correct thread (if not I apologize).
Honestly I would consider a Battle Master & Champion build if I could double subclass. The BM comes online early when the Champion isn’t doing much, and the Champ comes online later when the BM is starting to fall behind a bit. Plus, crit fishing with Maneuvers would be awesome since most of the good ones proc on a hit, so you’ll know if it’s a crit before you use them. And the BM gives enough to manage that the more passive abilities of the Champ would be welcome.
As for your idea, I might still suggest taking Champ as your second Fighter subclass. You’ll also have enough to manage that the Champ’s passive abilities won’t add too much to juggle, the additional crits are nice, and all the downsides to the Champ will be mitigated by your other classes.
Thank you so much for the build, looks really good. I choose echo knight fighter & Astral self more for thematic and flavor rather then mechanics, it just seems like an awesome combination!
I'm confused what you mean when you say Echo Knight/Astral Self. Since those are two different classes, you have to multiclass to get them. And doing so is totally within the rules, it just takes several levels to get online. Are you saying that when you get a subclass in your class, you can also get a subclass from any class? Cause that's nuts. I'd probably do some kind of Fighter, Rogue, or Artificer and grab Bladesinging.

Out of curiosity, why Echo Knight & Astral Self?

My homebrew subclasses (full list here)
(Artificer) Swordmage | Glasswright | (Barbarian) Path of the Savage Embrace
(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer
(Rogue) DaggerMaster | Inquisitor | (Sorcerer) Riftwalker | Spellfist
(Warlock) The Swarm
I think they mean they intend to multiclass in addition to getting an extra subclass.
