I want y'alls opinion: I'm planning to name change. my current plan is to change first into "SpiderTrapperRaccoonLord" and then eventually just "Raccoon_Lord". What do y'all think?
I hate to admit it but I’ve already forgotten the name you used before you changed it to SpiderTrapper. (I’m terrible with names.) So you may as well either just keep your name or change it entirely for all the difference it’ll make to me. (What was your old name again by the way?)
It was AllMightyLordOfDND. when I first joined, I didn't know the forums existed so I never thought the name would see the light of day. Then one day, I found this nice little thread called the Anything But The OGL thread and I never went back.
DM's: what's the funniest lore you've made for your campaign, the silliest monster or encounter, something along those lines.
Players: what is the funniest character you've made? You don't have to have used it, but a character concept that was just silly.
Everyone: what is 1+1? (There's a deeper meaning behind this I swear)
Jen, you may know her teenage version from the Half Blood RP thread as the daughter of Hermes, was made to piss off my sibling, they visit this thread sometimes as Hecate173, as they were DMing a campaign at level 20, she was made for speed and can move 350 feet in one turn. All of her stats are low except STR and DEX to account for this though, so she's very stupid and frail

I did this just last week so it's perfect. I had the players find a flyer in the city requesting help with a "magical mishap," and it turned out to be from a halfling man named Disch Wasch'er, one half of a magical invention duo. He and his business partner were testing a new instant-cooking device, but something went wrong and the other man disappeared in a blinding flash. Disch found no trace of him, but found a cat in the shop with a nametag: Mike. Disch's partner? Michael Rowave. So he thought the device somehow turned Michael into a cat.
Turns out, the cooking device had accidentally created a sort of demiplane within itself where the magical heat flowed through. A... hot pocket dimension, if you will. While investigating, the party got transported there as well, finding Michael, who was able to devise an escape plan with their help. Trying not to get cooked, they overloaded the device and popped back out. The device promptly launched into the air and exploded, and the completely ordinary cat named Mike who had just coincidentally shown up went on its way.
My players enjoyed it while also making several physical threats to my person.

I once made a human sorcerer who was a play on the Frog Prince trope. He was once a happy little frog who angered the wrong spirit. The cruel spirit wanted the frog to suffer so he transformed him into the worst thing a frog can imagine, a human. Now he goes on quests in the hope of finding a way to return to his true form.
Pick any monster from any of the D&D books, and write a summary for the monster's origin... where did it come from? Doesn't have to be for your campaign. Could be something absolutely silly if you want to. Try to make it at least three sentences to avoid answers like, "I farted the goblin into existence."
Bats. One of the gods looked out upon the earth and found it to be overrun with rodents. So he gave a bunch of them wings to clear more room on the floor.
All the way to middle of page three… that was the farthest I’ve ever seen us. So, today we have both a Question and a Quest of the Day!
The Question: What do you look for in unofficial D&D products? Do you want new magic items, races, subclasses, spells, or even classes? Or do you prefer new rules and unique play style adaptations? Perhaps you just want a book that provides lore?
The Quest: Create a new subclass or race for D&D; something never seen before. BUT, do not create the statistics. Tell me about their lore and how they fit in alongside the other character options in D&D!

For the question: I usually look at the new subclasses, spells, races, lore, and monsters. I want stuff that I will be able to use whether I am a player or a DM. I don't pay a lot of attention to magic items because you rarely get to choose your own and it is super easy to homebrew something specific for your characters that won't be game breaking. New rules can be cool, but it isn't something I look for.
The Question: What do you look for in unofficial D&D products? Do you want new magic items, races, subclasses, spells, or even classes? Or do you prefer new rules and unique play style adaptations? Perhaps you just want a book that provides lore?
It depends on the product. For example, I own the two unofficial 5e Eberron books published on the DMsGuild by Keith Baker. In those, I mainly look forward to the amazing lore and deep dives into how the races/monsters of the setting are unique from their standard version. For example, I was really surprised by how interesting the Sea Elves are in Exploring Eberron. Baker's lore for the Sea Elves is the only time I've seen anyone make them interesting, even if it does rely on Eberron's High Elf and Sahuagin lore for it to be as good as it is.
For other products, I'm typically more interested in monster stat blocks and new player options/magic items. I buy Keith Baker's products for the lore, I buy other products (Kobold Press, MCDM) for the mechanics.

A while ago I brainstormed the idea of a lineage called the Binates, a group of people always born as a set of twins, but with one mind controlling both bodies. Their mechanics would function most similarly to the Echo Knights.

Question: Character options. Plain and simple. As I am mostly a player (I play in 5 games and DM 2), I am always on the lookout for new character options. Recently for christmas I was given Tome of Heroes by kobold press and loved it.
Quest: Hmm...How about a subclass? how about a...wizard subclass? I present: school of rock. The school of rock is practised by a group of svirfneblin known as the Rolig Stauns (hopefully someone gets the reference) who live deep underground. The grindings of the earth inspire their magic, its sound like cracking thunder. Their leader is Miyster Scheenbly, the archmage of rock. Through the six magical ropes known as the Threads of Rock, Miyster interprets the will of the Rock Gods, which often involves upending the status quo and sowing chaos among the common folk.
Hey, It's me, RaccoonMaster! I'm back! I disappeared for a while there, but now everything's good and I'm trying to get into more games!
I'm an actor, writer, singer (opera, musical theatre, and rock are my preferred genres), backpacker, and tall person (6'5 and counting). Pronouns are whatever, I mostly use They/Them though.
My Characters: Elsenia Selevarum:The Popular Paladin, Aasimar Noble, Level 5 Paladin of Redemption;

Quest: oooh. Uh, let's make a race.
The emulon (made from using Google translate and mixing around letters and stuff) are people designed for war. Quite literally, I mean, as they're beings that are literal humanoid weapons. Originally created by the war deity (insert war deity name here), however powerful mages figured out the secret to their creation and began using the emul(a? I? Ons?) To fight grand wars. Once the wars fizzled out, the weapon people went off to live in different cities, villages, etcetera. Different subraces would be different weapons such as swords, axes or bows. Typically they have the head of their weapon, their handle is the body with arms and legs protruding out of it.

In unofficial products I look for two things:
Something I haven’t seen before, something really unique and new.
Something to fill a particular niche that the official content doesn’t fill.
The callinectes are an interesting crustacean people. They have thick, protective shells that they malt whenever they enter a growth period. They also have an additional pair of heavy upper appendages that end in large pincer claws. The average lifespan of a typical callinectes is 30 years, though some do live much longer. Not much is known about their reproductive cycles other than they are hatched from egg clutches. Callinectes typically come from one of two different populations, either the ocean depths or brackish, marshy areas of land.
Many callinectes are born of the deep, murky waters of the world’s oceans, but are almost equally capable of life on land. Little is known about the culture, or cultures of these crab people, they are generally thought to be a nomadic yet noble people content to keep to the deep reefs they call home. What is known however is that periodically they do accumulate en mass and strike towards land with the force of the tide.
What triggers these mass armed migrations isn’t entirely clear, however theories abound. One such theory is that they do it as a means of cleansing their native waters since they often arrive bearing the detritus accumulated from countless shipwrecks to deposit on land, and take tithe in the form of fresh meat and useful materials that will survive time in the depths. The first sign of a callinectes invasion is often unrest in the local merfolk population, as they are often the first to be displaced by the incoming crustacean tide.
Other callinectes inhabit the swamps and marshy areas of the world. These surface dwelling callinectes are more accustomed to the proximity of other species. While there are some differences between these marsh callinectes and their deep water cousins in terms of coloration due to their exposure to sunlight, they are otherwise physically indistinguishable in terms of their capabilities. Culturally though, marsh callinectes are as varied as any other species, and most callinectes adventurers encountered by air breathers are from one of these cultures.
The Question: What do you look for in unofficial D&D products? Do you want new magic items, races, subclasses, spells, or even classes? Or do you prefer new rules and unique play style adaptations? Perhaps you just want a book that provides lore?
I look for fire ideas and whether I'm confident in or wanna support the author. That's pretty much it for me tbh.

Adohond’s Kitchen is definitely not the ideal place for a discussion thread like this one. Sometimes things get so crazy you’ll see threads on page two that have only gone 2 or 3 hours without activity.
I understand that the original thread was closed down and this subforum was the only alternative, but it’s unfortunate nonetheless. It’d be better if all the “tavern” threads had their own forum, or maybe a specific location in Play-By-Post.

Heya everyone! I'm EJO, DDB's resident immortal Welsh medieval rat who appears randomly roughly once every week.
I'm not active much, but always up to talk when I am.
