Just had a really nice sess.
Started with a hydra fight. And I added a couple breath weapons as legendary actions.
After that they got to come to the base of an Adventuring Guild that had killed goblins they were allied with. They saw it had been attacked already, parlayed with the hobgoblins at the gate, and then had a choice to make when they met the chain devil in charge of things. (Who they had met before by the way.)
Once they met him and realized they'd fought him before I wasn't sure which way things would go. But it was in the devil's best interests to make allies of them so I had him offer them a deal. The deal was to kill some of the guild members who had holed up in a keep area. One of the partymembers was gung-ho and like "This guy has a firebow for offer? Heck yeah!" The others were a little more skeptical. But he roped them in.
As the battle commenced there was a query of "Why did you attack our pie shop? [where the goblins were]" and they learned the guild actually had a reasonable motive in that a dragonborn had mentioned her daughters getting kidnapped by goblins and wanting her back. (Truth: the dragonborn was the evil stepmother the daughter ran from.) But for the guild members by that point they've been attacked by these guys that are clearly working with devils so why listen to them? Better to fight to the death.
But the best part of that fight was that I got to use a fitting Spanish accent and silly quips. Plus there were a couple bards that allowed me to sing various responses and things like vicious mockery or cutting words. I really enjoyed that and the players did too.
There's a lot more to go on in that base so I'm wondering what will happen next. Particularly with one of the partymembers being determined to kill the devil.
