Why isn't the Forest Gnome an option for Character creation? I click on Gnomes and it only shows Rock and Deep as options for Gnomes. Where are the Forest Gnomes?
I'm pretty sure you have to buy them from the Player's Handbook in order to use them on the site. Some base races aren't included in the Basic Rules for whatever reason, I'm not sure why either TBH.
Yep, Forest Gnome and Dark Elf (Drow) require owning the PHB, or purchasing the subraces by themselves. Other PHB races weren't included in the Basic Rules because, well, Wizards of the Coast is still in the business of selling sourcebooks.

The only character options that are free her are those that have been made available for free by Wizards of the Coast, typically in 3 pdfs: The Basic Rules, The System Reference Document (aka the SRD), and the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. [There are a few other free items, but I won't complicate things by going into them here; ask if you'd like a more complete list.]. The Basic Rules and SRD have been essentially combined here and referred to collectively as the Basic Rules. The Forest Gnome is not part of the Basic Rules, the SRD, or the Elemental Evil Player's Companion, so it is not free. You can purchase just that race for $1.99, the subrace bundle for $2.99 (with adds the Drow/Dark Elf as well), or the entirety of the PHB. You can also homebrew the subrace using the homebrew tools if you would like.
This seems ridiculous to me. Races/subraces from other books are available. Forest Gnomes are in the Players Handbook. That is about as basic a source as you can get. Having to pay more for a race that is in the players Handbook is absurd.
No, the “most basic” sourcebook is the freely available Basic Rules & SRD: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules). That content is free to use on this website, as is the content from the freely available EEPC. The PHB not being free content is not included in the free options on this website.

Forest is Gnome is in the Players Handbook. How is that not Basic Rules?
How does one pay to get the Forest gnome? I do not see the option in charachter creation.

Regardless of your opinion on what is considered basic source, the PHB is not free so anything not included in the free Basic Rules will require purchase.
- Go to the PHB in Marketplace and scroll down where can buy the Sub Races bundle to get all subraces for $2.99

The Basic Rules free document should mention that forest gnomes are an optional buy, or should not mention them at all.

The Basic Rules & SRD is even more basic than the PHB, and is a free resource for all to use. The PHB is a paid for upgrade that includes way more stuff. You can purchase the “Full Version” here: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/players-handbook) for $30, or scroll down and just purchase that subrace for $2.

I own the complete PHB, but still the forest gnome is not available in the character creation process.
Any ideas what I could possibly do wrong?
--> found it. I don't own the whole PHB, but only the "Compendium Content Bundle". Seems to be the issue.
So, please ignore that post
