I'd like to have a way to organize multiple monster entries for during game play. Side by side would be awesome, or an accordion of tabs or just tabs so I can quickly switch between them without scrolling to much.
Though side by side would be ideal.
You can open each monster in a new tab/window - after expanding the monster's stats, at the very bottom you will see View Monster page. Click to open in new tab and then you can have individual pages for monsters to flick between.
If you're trying to open multiple monsters, that doubles the number of clicks you'd need to do that, and introduces a lot of scrolling. Can you make it so, say, middle-clicking on the monster name in the big list would make it open in a new tab? Or maybe include a small button to open the View Monster page directly in the big list view without needing to expand it first?
I can't imagine this hasn't been brought up, but it would be nice for the search field to remain when you are viewing a particular monster's "page" instead of having to back out to previous page...
Not entirely focused only on monster stats, but I think it would be useful to be able to gather monsters for a particular environment (as the filters allow) together with rules for that environment per the DMG or other rules sets. If, as a DM, I want to run a series of adventures in a desert, it would be great to consolidate the desert/thirst/sandstorm visibility rules with the desert-environment monsters to give me parameters for my scenarios. Connections to lore elements (such as Forgotten Realms desert settings) would be a bonus, but possibly not in the purview of D&DBeyond.
I like Talebearer's idea and maybe there is a way to do it when we get the campaign manager in phase 3. There is a lot of things that fit well under campaign management and I hope those ideas are being catalogued for phase 3 as we are giving them in multiple places to help DMs run a game from character sheets, to monster listings, to environment info all set up in easy ways to quick check while playing the game.

It would be helpful if you could create user profile folders. I'd like to be able to save a group of select monsters in a folder based on a particular campaign. I can do it now by creating a browser favorites folder and saving the links, but it would be nice to have a facsimile in the DDB. This might lead to other options and links like room pics, magical items, or even npc characters created in phase 2 making DMing easier.
I don't know if this is just a bug, but the picture used for Ape https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/ape doesn't show an ape as far as I can see. I'm guessing that the ape and many other creatures just have a place holding image until they real image is put in.
I'm thinking about Challenge Ratings and have an idea. It may be too niche-specific or annoying to code, but here goes:
The standard CR given for monsters assumes a party of 4 adventurers around the same level. But clearly, certain environments or numbers of monsters can drastically alter the CR, just as a larger or smaller party can do the same.
Would it be possible to have a sliding-scale type calculator to allow for more options when searching CR. For example, as a DM I know I'm planning a game for a party of 5 whose average level is 6. Normally things like kobolds, goblins, and oozes would fall off the CR list, but that's not necessarily true. 50 kobolds in their own lair could be a massive challenge for these adventurers. An ooze lurking in the attic of an inn is more likely to surprise an unarmed, unarmored PC than the same creature in a dungeon. Similarly, an Adult Black Dragon is one kind of challenge in the countryside, and an entirely different challenge in its lair.
If there were some way to connect environment tags to the CR search, and/or to project higher numbers of low-CR monsters into a DM's CR search, it would open up gaming ideas for the DM that might not otherwise be clear. Maybe another element to the Campaign Manager?
I love the clean look to the whole thing (the whole site, actually, is great looking). As it's just the beta it's hard to know what's already in the works for the next phases, but I would like if some of the artwork was featured a little more - it seems like you have to dig around a bit for what I believe is the best reason to buy the books.
I like Talebearer's idea and am wondering if that would wind up in the Campaign Manager without causing a programming headache. It might not with how you are building in blocks with a modular method from what I can tell, so waiting to see how this all pulls together.
So far the foundation and search for monsters appears to be working well with the SRD information being used to test the application.
Overall I think Phase 1 has proven to be quite successful, but people are getting antsy for the next phase already (let alone Phase 3). ::chuckles:: Hopefully what we have managed to do in around 2 weeks has helped with a great deal of things for Phase 1 tweaking (like the awesome linking you added) to all the work that is going on now to have the character creation part ready for Phase 2. I might have to resort to putting down some salt to keep the ants away myself. ;)

You read my mind! I was thinking the exact same thing! Additionally, if this were part of a DM's toolkit to have this included in an encounter builder. Then you could easily link to your party's characters and start building. It could look at your party and make suggestions based on Danger Type / CR. For instance, we'll take your Kobolds as an example. You could pick Kobold as your monster, it would look at your party makeup and suggest the following: Easy = 1 to 10 Kobolds, Dangerous = 10 to 20, etc...Then you could modify the encounter by adding environment tags to it and have it adjust the numbers. It would certainly make building an encounter much easier to balance the threat level.
Just wondering if monsters from Volo's Guide will become available sometime later? I've been pretty keen to put some of the more interesting beasties in to keep my older players on their toes so it'd be great to be able to use them in this exciting new platform.

For the duration of the beta test, the content will be restricted to the DnD Systems Reference Document (SRD). Once the beta test is complete and the product is finished, there will absolutely be content from all of the various official publications. :)
It is SRD. It is in the mm on page 222
Monster manual is standard
SRD refers to the System Reference Document - more info can be found here: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/systems-reference-document-srd
Core Rule books do not equal SRD.

I was browsing the monsters section but it seems that there is no mind flayer/illithid.
At this time there is only official WotC SRD content. Content from the core rulebooks will be in the tools after release (summer 2017).
