What is included in the master tier subscription I currently have all the hard copies of books such as MTF and VGM and am looking into purchasing the master tier subscription for my party to use. the question I have is what material is included i.e. would I need to unlock all of the content I have already bought?
Allows you to share content you own on D&D Beyond with players in your campaigns (up to 3 campaigns of 12 players each)
Yes, you would have to unlock the content you already have hardcovers of. If you do not own any content on D&D Beyond, then it offers no benefit for you.
The hero tier subscription does the first two things (removes ads and unlimited characters).
As to why you should buy the books on D&D Beyond when you already own physical copies:
Is the content available to share with the Mater Tier only compendium content, or does it also include digital assets that my players can use for things like Character Creation and Inventory Items?

The master tier does not grant any content whatsoever. The content must be purchased separately. With the Master Tier you can enable content sharing and it shares both the compendium content and all of the goodies too, as long as the “full version” of the content was purchased. If one player enables content sharing, then everything purchased by anyone in the campaign is shared no matter who has the content, who has the subscription, or who is the DM.
Can you content share with people even if you're not running your campaign on DNDBeyond per se? Like if we play in person but want to share the source material books with people in my group so they can make characters with DNDBeyond?
What would be good is if somewhere the Master/Hero Tiers listed which sourcebooks were included in the tier price. So I can see all the content for some things and not others and am not sure why. Like obviously the DMG is included but I don't see it listed anywhere...?

You do not get any books with the subscription. You have to buy the book on D&D Beyond.
So if you have the highest tier that allows book sharing. You will actually only share a book if you bought it on D&D Beyond. Physical books are not from DnD Beyond & DnD Beyond is not from WOTC
Eendmans was also talking about digital access. Subscribing gives you things links unlimited characters and encounters and —at the master tier content sharing. Subscriptions do not give you access to content. If you want access to the DMG (or any other book here), you have to buy it here.

No sourcebooks or adventures are included in any of the subscription tiers. If you are seeing content without having purchasing it, it's because it's being shared with you
