I think that the marketplace function is quite good. However, I believe that you should get a physical copy of what you buy on there as well as the digital copy. My reasoning behind this is that if the site, for whatever reason, was to go down then people wouldn't be able to access their content. So if that was to happen then you could still carry on running a campaign / planning for your next session / leveling up a character or something if you had the physical copy.
Also what about the people that have already bought some of the physical books, they are going to be paying to do something that they already can, just with a bit more convenience.
I think Subaru should give me a second car just in case mine breaks down. Also since I bought a 2016 I also want a new one every year without paying.
I'm sure there's a very good reason for it (and others have mentioned it) but I do wish there was a way to receive a digital copy on here after purchasing the physical copy. I very recently purchased a physical monster manual but now kind of wish I just got it on here. There is a certain charm though to owning a physical copy and actually holding it which is nice. Something about how analog it is feels appropriate. Anyways, I know I would have appreciated maybe a combo where for a few extra dollars you get a digital download/physical add on or alternatively a discount (slightly bigger than the current one) for the people who own the physical books. I don't think it's super unreasonable since movies and comic books have been doing it for a long time now. Books seem to be the big hold out on it.
I purchased the PHB 2 days ago and I still have none of the content available to me. Just wondering what can be done to sort it out/how long it will be before I can use it?
Subaru sold you a car that can drive on roads, but Interstates aren't 'roads'. Even though you car COULD theoretically drive on Interstates, it can't unless you pay Subaru a fee for the ability to drive on the Interstate as well as roads.
Would it be possible to add expected character levels to the Modules descriptions? When I'm hunting around for the next one to buy, I basically have to go Google that information. It's not like it isn't on WoC descriptions of the hardback books (for most of them). It seems like it would be easy to add on the DnD Beyond descriptions as well.
The subscription pricing is pretty reasonable, but the content pricing is insane. The $20 sale prices for the main books are still twice as much as I and the people I game with would be willing to pay.
If I can't even access the PHB content then the site is practically useless to me and I won't bother paying for a sub. Give access to the PHB, DMG, and MM content included in the sub or drastically reduce the price of those books. I'm not going to comment on the pricing of all the other stuff - if you can't get people like me in the door with the basics then the rest is irrelevant.
What incentive is there for me to use D&D Beyond if I've already bought hardcover books? If I don't pay what looks to be an additional 66% of the MSRP of what I already own D&D Beyond appears to be useless to me and my players. This drives me away from any of the digital products for D&D, it looks like there has been zero consideration given for accommodating the many, many people who bought hard copies already; instead of creating a way for us to access the content we already bought you've turned the digital tool we've been promised for years into nothing more than a glorified paygate.
So again, what incentive do I have to use D&D Beyond? I've purchased the hardcopies of the books; there are plenty of sites that let me track character sheets and adventure logs and homebrew info; I run IRL games, and even when I need to stream someone in I've just used Skype or Twitch. What is supposed to entice me as an experienced D&D gamer to want to use this? This seems only oriented toward brand new players who have never purchased a D&D book and also seems like a way to undermine local game stores given that you are de-incentivizing buying physical books and products with D&D Beyond.

Some recommended reading for anyone who: a) think WotC is trying to nickel and dime you by asking you to pay for content again b) are concerned about what you're getting for your money compared with the physical books c) are concerned about the pricing structure

Save your energy. I understand the business model, but making this profitable is not my problem. I want them to succeed but I also want to feel like I'm getting value for my money and right now it doesn't feel that way. I already own the books, so comparing the prices here to the price of the books is pointless. The only thing that matters here is the value of the tool on top of the books, and the price does not match that.
This is a feedback thread and I am giving feedback. While I'm sure they appreciate people like you carrying water for them, they need to hear from people like me who aren't ready to jump in with both feet even more. I don't want them to find themselves in the red, holding their heads and asking, "How could this happen? All our feedback was so positive!"
I would love the ability to purchase character slots for a one-time fee. Here's a comparison model:
In Star Wars: The Old Republic (and many other MMO's), players with a free account are limited in numerous ways. As with D&D: Beyond, one of those limitations is the number of character slots a player can have active. In SWTOR, players can purchase and unlock, on an a la carte basis, all of the features that a subscription account would have. It would cost a lot of money, but you could theoretically purchase and unlock all the features of the game without ever paying a monthly fee.
I will likely never pay a subscription fee for D&D: Beyond. I prefer to unlock content on a one-time basis. Additionally, character generation is hugely important to me - I don't even play the game that often due to my hectic schedule, but I love generating characters, trying out builds, creating backstories, etc., even if they never get used. If I had the ability to pay a one-time fee per additional character slot, say $5, I would jump all over that. Alternatively, those who prefer to have unlimited character slots as a perk of the subscription would of course be free to continue with that option.
I feel this suggestion is very much in-line with the flexible a la carte options already available in D&D: Beyond - please consider.

I feel this was designed to be more of an alternative than a supplement like you're describing. And they are priced accordingly.

There would appear to be an error in the Tales From the Yawning Portal description; I'm sure you didn't mean to say, "D&D’s deadliest dungeons are not part of your arsenal of adventures."

So, I'm using D&D Beyond, and I know that I only have free access to the SRD stuff, but I own physical copies of the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, and Tales From the Yawning Portal. However, I don't have access to those on D&D Beyond. It would be great if there were some way to prove online that I have the physical copies of books so that I have access to them on here without having to buy them all over again, such as having to look up a specific word from a specific page or something like that (ex-What is the third word on page 217 of the Player's Handbook?) . It can get really annoying to have to go pull out my book every time that I run into something that isn't included in the SRD, and it definitely impacts my character creation.

Amazing. That suggestion actually bypasses most of the usual counter-arguments. I'm not exactly official, but for a moment I thought it might even be viable. Then public libraries occurred to me. Close, but, as the saying goes, no cigar. Closer than most, if not all, if it makes you feel better.

i continue to update threads I see pop up over in the bugs section but I'm going to post this here as well - I understand it's also important to post about it to the zendisk page as well but there seems to be a lack of communication behind the scenes and thus this simple fix hasn't been implemented.
I was having issues, like many others, with making purchases via paypal. The answer is to use your state's 2-character abbreviation. There is not a character limit (THERE SHOULD BE, OBVIOUSLY) and thus if you were to, for instance, type in Iowa instead of IA, you will 100% get that "transation" error. This is a fix that needs to happen on the back end. I have replied a few times to people having issues in the bug forum and this has fixed it for them.
I cannot say that this will fix every instance of that error happening but I know it's definitely been an issue for some of us. The only reason I knew how to fix this for myself initially was that support offered it as a solution. I don't understand how a fix hasn't been made to the order page yet but at the very least the moderators should be made aware that this solution may help people purchase content.
I have already bought a ton of 5e content. Is there anyway I can add it to my account? I can post pictures of it, and my receipts, along with a picture of my username and the date or whatever.
I'm not going to purchase content again, so hopefully we can work something out. Thanks.

Staff have said that this is not going to be possible.
