In my personal opinion, it would be useful to have an easily accessible notepad on the site on which to jot down random idea that come to you during a gaming session, conversation, or some other time. That way, players can have all of their DnD notes, info, and idea in the same places as their characters and campaigns in a handy dandy little site, and when random inspiration sparks, all you have to do is open up a sidebar, quickly type out your thoughts, and then go back to whatever you were doing beforehand withthout and hassle, whether it be whipping up homebrew creations or designing a new character. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts and opinions on my idea! Any suggestions?
(Also, side note: If the site directors do decide to make this a thing, I'd be more than happy to provide code for it, and even install it myself, if it would be most convenient. :D)
I don't think this is very necessary. I get most of my ideas for sessions when I'm coming or going from work during my half hour drive. If it pushes me enough I will jot it down on a word document then place it in a D&D folder for a later date.
While it is true that there is a character notes sppt, its mainly for notes about that particuar character, not general world lore, etc. I think it wouls be useful just to have a designated generic space to put all of the random notes, especially for people like me who don't have access to word documents, google docs, or any other application of the sort.

A workaround, create a campaign named notes and use the DM notes section as a notepad (I'm not aware of any limit on campaigns other than content sharing)

I'm somewhat confused as to how you can be using a website like D&D Beyond and not be able to access Google Docs, which is a free, online web app?
I mean, at the very least you should have access to notepad or similar as those are bundled with all operating systems and phones, as well as free note taking apps like notepad++, google keep, etc
There's also Hypothesis, which is a chrome extension/browser agnostic bookmarklet that lets you annotate websites with your own notes

I used my ps4 to browse here, at least I did until D&DBeyond stopped loading correctly. Despite the fact that the ps4 browser sucks, this is the only site that really works poorly for me. Maybe the OP is on a console as well and has no access to apps.
Being completely honest, I totally forgot consoles had web browsers. Although that being said, you can still access google docs through a console browser, right?
I don't find it difficult to switch to Notes and back. (I use and edit Other the most.)
Is it not easy to get to the Notes section with the platform you're using?

I don't want to sound like an old person here, but I've found that a pencil and actual notebook work best for me. Often because inspiration strikes at random times and it's quicker than opening up whatever software I'd use.

Yes.
I have used Google Docs and One Note in PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
These note-taking services have been available for several years (especially Google Docs, which I started using 10 years ago). Anything with a browser can access them. One Note was a little clunky on the PS3 but worked and was fine on Xbox and Google Docs worked fine on everything.
If you have internet access and a browser, you have a way of taking notes. You can also take notes through any e-mail app by just e-mailing it to yourself under subject Notes.
Given the above, and the fact characters have a Notes section and you can make a campaign with a prominent notes section (two, in fact). I see no reason why the devs should take time to implement this. There's bugs to fix, features we need that are overdue, features we want that have been promised, new content always coming in, and lots that could be improved -- I'd rather they focus on that stuff than waste time giving you another way to do something when you already have several easy ways to do it.

To be honest, I can somewhat see where the OP is coming from. I use the Encounter Builder for some notes, mostly social encounters, town info or story hooks. It works great, give it a Title, a Short Summary and Encounter Description(details).
You can also use the Private Messages and make a draft, label it with campaign name or date in the subject line, then fill in your notes in the text box.

For your character, there is a notes section. It's meant for notes about the character generally but, you can use it however you like.

You can probably imagine it's rather cluttered.
