Could you clarify the difference between the full sourcebooks and the compendium packages?
My impression is that the compendium package gives a bare-bones version of the content, with most of the crunch included but excluding fluff. So with Volo's Guide for example, the compendium package would include all the race options and monster stat blocks, but none of the monster lore (like the detailed chapters on beholders, giants, etc.). Is that correct?
The Compedium is just the text (everything of the text: spells, monsters...), but the Compendium does not give you the source material to use in the toolset. To use the source material (spells, monsters....) in the toolset either you buy the bundles or the complete book (the one at full price).
The cost of any individual elements or bundles you unlock within a particular source will be credited toward the purchase of the full source.
...
This also applies to the Legendary Bundle. If you buy the three Core Rulebooks while they are on sale the first week, you will be credited ~$60 toward your purchase of the Legendary Bundle. You should probably just take the plunge after that, right?
I love this. Thank you for this and all the other thoughtful things you've done.
But I how does this interact with the first week sale price? If I buy the sourcebooks (PHB, DMG, MM, SCAG, VGtM) for $120, and the 8 adventures (PHB, DMG, MM, SCAG, VGtM) for their listed prices at $180 (setting the pennies aside), I get a total of $300. And 15% off of that is $255 (setting the pennies aside). Would subscription payments go towards the discount? Wouldn't that make it more simple to say that Once you've paid us $280, we'll give you a 15% discount on all purchases? Or something like that?
I think I just figured it out.
If, at any point, you own all the sourcebooks and adventures, you get a 15% discount on past (might turn into a refund, if the last purchase is smaller than the total discount) and future sourcebooks and adventures.

I believe it's mostly the exact opposite. It basically unlocks the full text of the books in the compendium, but doesn't unlock the content in the tools (character builder, spell listing, monster listing, etc.). You can see the equipment table as it appears in the compendium, for example, but you couldn't access the stats for the content in the Items tab.
We don't have any compendium content for the monster manual, so I can't say what it will look like, but I'll guess that you could see the lore for a monster and the stat block in the compendium, but you wouldn't be able to see the stats for the monster in the monster listing.
I really like the pricing plan, especially the bundles and the previously purchased content. :D
I have one question, though?
The previously purchased content bit includes the following: "This also applies to the Legendary Bundle. If you buy the three Core Rulebooks while they are on sale the first week, you will be credited ~$60 toward your purchase of the Legendary Bundle. You should probably just take the plunge after that, right?"
However, the Legendary Bundle assumes a price of ~$30 per core rulebook, right? So ~$90 for the three? Or will its price also be reduced for the week? And even then, if someone gets the three books at the Founder's week bundle (~$60), and a month later decide to get the Legendary, do they get the three books' purchase off (~$90 at that time, presumably), or the amount they paid (~$60), in which case they'd technically pay ~$30 more for the legendary bundle?

If you buy the core books (PHB, MM and DMG) in the first week, and later you decide to go for the Legendary Bundle, you will get a credit of 60.

I think he's saying you get the amount you paid -- so if you buy the founders week bundle which is ~$60, you get that ~%60 credit, if you bought one for ~$30, then bought the second for ~$30 then the 3rd for ~$30 you would get a $90 "credit" toward the Legendary. Basically I believe the point is you can't buy something on sale, and get full price (read DDB full price) credit. The price of the full Legendary Bundle wouldn't change, even if you bought some of the content during a sale, the Legendary price appears static as you are already getting a discount on it (it won't lower if you bought something on sale, you just get the sale price credit).
Ok folks, a few minutes later, but I've posted an additional FAQ thread, where I will compile the various questions & answers.
just a suggestion, but make the questions in the first post hyperlink to each question/answer directly.
If only that was possible! The forum software strips out raw html tags that would allow that, so the best I can do is link to the POST that the question/answer is in. The stripping is necessary though, to stop people doing weird things with their posts and keep you all safe.
I'm currently looking at reformatting to make this easier and is the reason I locked the thread.
See, that obviously makes sense, getting credit for what you paid for, but it does mean that if you decide to get the Legendary pack after the Founder's Week has passed, you practically give back what you saved on that week (the collected $30).
Not an issue, of course, if that is the case - just wanted to make sure it's intended and not an oversight.

I see, I thought it was possible as I remembered it being done with the "staff posts" thread, but likely as you said it went to the forum post that the section was located, not the actual question number directly.
You still need a "I want all the character creation stuff, but don't want to buy adventures" option in your bulk pricing.
I'd also still strongly encourage a subscription tier that included all content. That "only" $280 to get all the books is a scary upfront cost, especially if you're not convinced how useful the service will be.
You could even tie it to the extended subscriptions, buy three months get a token for a permanent book, but six months, get 2 tokens, buy 12 months get 4 tokens.
Not that you have to do this, but as a kindness: If the system recognizes that someone is about to purchase $29.99 or more worth of PHB bundle content (for instance) can it just default to purchasing the entire PHB? XD For instance if I buy the Compendium Content for the MM and then try to buy the Iconic Monsters bundle for the MM, rather than let me do that could it just charge another $9.98 for the whole MM?
Not sure if this would come up but at the very least a warning would be cool.
Will the Legendary Bundle be cheaper the first week since the PHB, DMG, and MM are on sale for $19.99 each? 15% off of that total with the sale price would be around $255.

I'll add a, "What is included in a compendium package?" to the FAQ. :)

This looks fantastic. Very well thought out and reasonable, as I see it. $15 for LMoP, and $20 rather than $24 for HotDQ and RoT. Nice.
Awesome. Are you ready to take my money? No. Okay, I will wait 8 more days.

Will there be Content Bundle options for Adventures? So I could, say, just buy the magic items from Storm King's Thunder?

Pricing looks good... really like the Legendary Bundle, especially with the future 15% off!
Can't wait to see what "another terribly-exciting announcement" will be!
As always great work by you guys, keep it up!
