We don't consider a good thing (a lifetime 15% discount for all official digital content purchases) punishment. The Legendary Bundle isn't for everyone. Like everything with our pricing model, we are simply trying to offer a flexible option.
I guess punishment is too strong a word. But they'd refund to Beyond the savings that they enjoyed for buying a sale item. And this will happen whenever they buy anything else on sale, other than a subscription, until they purchase the Legendary Bundle.
Wouldn't it make more sense to trigger the Legendary Bundle based on ownership of the material, rather than paying a certain amount of cash?
Is the LB a limited time deal, or will it be around awhile?
Per the post, it will be around for good and added to as new content comes out.

In regards to the price of the Legendary bundle and applying other purchases toward it:
Can you share whether future sales in individual or bundled projects will generally be less than or about 15%? Or will they be more similar to the Founder's Week special (33%)?
If periodic sales allow you to get content at discounts greater than 15%, then there is no financial benefit to the Legendary Bundle. Sure, you might not get Xanathar's on day one (at 15% off), but 6 months later you could get it for 30% off.
Also, as a pricing model, its weird that the price of the bundle keeps growing. I mean, I totally understand why. However, as time goes on it makes less and less sense to invest in it. If I've invested in most of the books up to that point in time, but been picking and choosing when to buy by getting them on sales (again, presuming sales are greater than 15% discounts), then trying to catch up the the ever-growing price of the Legendary Bundle basically means undoing all the savings I've made in the past.
The Legendary Bundle is an awesome purchase on Day one (or any time before the next book launch), but then becomes progressively less and less awesome as each product is released and added to it. To put it in game terms, it doesn't seem to scale well.
And one more Legendary Bundle question: Does the 15% discount on future purchases apply to individual content items (like just Spells from Book X) or does it apply only to full-book purchases?
Legendary Bundle $280 minus Founder's Bundle $60 = $220 remaining to get the Legendary bundle. You still spent $280 total.
Legendary Bundle $280 minus PHB/DMG/MM after founder's week $90 = $190 remaining. You still spent $280.
You give up the 33% opening week discount on just 3 books for a permanent 15% discount across the board and on all future content purchases. I would say that is still a great deal.

-crossing fingers for class and race homebrew options- :)
Love the new pricing stuff. Definitely taking the dive for the Legendary Bundle....after GenCon.
Races and subclasses will be added to homebrew options post-launch, but they are high on the priority list.
What about actual classes, not just subclasses? My players are cool with moving to 5e but want to be able to recreate their 4e classes. I'd also like to be able to bring my DMG classes into DDB.
This one was addressed, due to the complexity and ability to have a class do anything that won't be in the homebrew creator. BadEye did mention that they would likely be doing polls on what classes from DMGuild are most wanted and try to add those classes in the future.
Ouch. That actually kills most of the use I would have gotten out of this tool. Damn, too bad. I was looking forward to it, too. Thanks for the information.
That's pretty passive aggressive!
Those are our current plans. If there is enough demand within the community for base classes, we could determine to undertake the effort.
I thought it was rather straight-forward, myself.
My crew plays 4e using the good ol' offline Character Builder with CBLoader and my active D&D Insider subscription which allows me to use the 4e Compendium. They love their 4e classes, and are actively playing only one D&D 5e campaign because of a lack of character creation tools. They are willing to switch to D&D 5e but are hesitant to lose the feeling of their characters, so they wanted me to home-brew them like I did for the Warden and Swordmage on the DMG. Without that ability, they're not budging, so we're going to stick with 4e I guess except for that one campaign. If/when D&D Beyond adds the ability to home-brew classes, I'll be in, but until then there's no reason for me to use the tool aside from the occasional Compendium look-up when I don't feel like digging through a book.
I love the work y'all have put in and I wish you success. I was just under the impression that class home-brew was going to be in from the get go.
Is the LB a limited time deal, or will it be around awhile?
It looks like it's a forever thing. From the pricing page:
"The Legendary Bundle will always be updated to include ALL content. That means that buying in at any point has the same effect. When Tomb of Annihilation releases, the Legendary Bundle will increase in price to ~$300. If you ever buy the bundle, you receive the benefits."
So the price will go up as new things are added, but whatever you buy will count toward reducing the cost. While I'm not going for it because I don't use the adventures, it's a very generous offer, I think.
I'm hoping down the road they'll have two "Very Rare Bundles", one just the source books and the other just the adventures.
Either way, the current offering is a great deal. Perpetual 15% off is pretty awesome.
A question I've yet to see is in relation to Unearthed Arcana. Is this something that might be pursued through Homebrew Content potentially, and if not specifically by Wizards, will we be opened up to homebrewing concepts that are not currently able to be homebrewed. i.e. Feats, Races. etc.
4. I came here to post 2 thoughts that I see have already been brought up.
5. I would like to see the Legendary Bundle split into 2 packages. One for the Core Books and One for the Adventures. As a consumer, $285 is a tough sell along with the $60 right off the bat. But I could possibly swing the $120, plus $60 for the Master Year, pending the wife's approval. Then in a while start buying the adventures at a time when I need them.
B. I also see that a Founder's week discount for the Legendary Bundle should be in order. It doesn't make sense to me to offer a deal that goes away as I give you more money. Either, give us the deal or not.
C. It appears, if you are wondering, that if things stay the same, I'll probably be spending $60 +$6 that first week, and see how things go.
2. Thanks again for all the hard work. These are just opinions of one person who really loves D&D and what you've done so far.
OK, that's pretty awesome. The previously purchased content thing is, basically, amazing. That will definitely incentivise sales. And since I won't be able to afford the Legendary Bundle right out of the gate, being able to get the $60 credited toward it, is hugely appreciated. Anyone who complains about pricing at this point, I think, is being unreasonable IMO.

Officially adding the Unearthed Arcana playtest material is something that will be done in the future.

The price of the bundle isn't going to be reduced, as per the FAQ.
Logically, it cannot, because this would mean that D&D Beyond could never put any of the other items on sale, without offering discount on the Legendary Bundle and that would then upset everyone who bought it at full price.

I've been wondering the same thing, because UE falls into a very weird category - while it's on the website, it's freely available so in theory it should be freely available on DDB. However, the understanding is that UE content is in play test form, and if WoC gets enough positive feedback they'll actually publish it in a future volume. At which point it moves behind the paywall. Hmmm...
Hey folks, I had a thought about this whole idea that if you buy the PHB, DMG, and MM during the founder's week sale and then later buy the legendary bundle that you are "loosing" your discount.
Instead of looking at it as not getting your $30 off your purchase of the core books, how about looking at it as getting $49.88 off your purchase of everything now and also 15% off everything else that comes along.
Because buying all there is on offer (so far) at the normal prices listed would cost $329.87 without any discount.
Officially adding the Unearthed Arcana playtest material is something that will be done in the future.
This is great news, I have a campaign coming up and all my players are looking at unearthed arcana archetypes. Would those be paid content or like public home-brew content created by WotC?
Follow up- Homebrew races and classes/paths - I get the complication here is there an ETA on those or a broad goal like by the end of the year?

I don't believe it will be an issue.
The upcoming release of XGtE will contain updated versions of subclasses first introduced via Unearthed Arcana. When that book is published, I think it highly unlikely that WotC will go back and delete the UA PDF that the subclass was introduced in.
This is because the published version of the subclass will be fairly modified from the UA version, due to feedback from players.

Sorry, no information available on that - there are a LOT of features and content in the roadmap and I know that BadEye and the team will be working hard to deliver them after launch.
I'm digging the pricing! Something I don't see in there is breaking down the adventures. What if I want, say, just the monsters from Princes of the Apocalypse or SKT? Will there be an option for that?
