Ink completes his ritual casting of detect magic as the ship positions itself over the altar. Keeping concentration on the spell, Ink joins Flint and takes a look around the altar...
Quill goes flying up and begins her 'watch' pattern.
As you gather around the altar, you notice that the ground underneath consists of piles of solid, flint-like rock. Your shovels aren’t likely to be of much use here.
Edgar eventually flies down and mimics the distant roar you heard earlier, with an aura of curiosity and apprehension.
Quill senses no danger, but it is clear that the elk across the ring have taken more notice of you and have stopped foraging. They are just watching now.
When he finishes his detect magic ritual near the stone slab altar, Ink’s senses reveal a faint aura of divination magic originating from underneath it. It’s obvious you aren’t going to be digging for this one.
Don sits down and crosses his legs placing his hands on his knees. He extends his vision into Edgar and commands him to fly up toward the distant roar. He flies as far as he can without losing the connection to see if he can see anything.
Edgar flies 100 feet to the east, but you can see nothing but the misty Evermoors and the rolling clouds in the sky.
Flint can tell that if they got it just right, with maybe 5 or more people pushing, they might be able to topple the slab. Just looking at it, you can tell it’s at least a few tons.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Flint calls for the ship to desend low enough for us to tie a rope around each skid and around the altar. We'll then have the ship pull while we push. Flint will cast guidance on Don.
Flint will create a loop of rope between the altar and the airship, basically like an eyelet low to the ground to keep the rope from sliding up the back of the altar as the airship pulls. He'll use his immovable rod to hold it in place.

Does it look like the altar can be moved?

Could we use the ship to help with that? Or a block/tackle?
Can we use the shovels to dig under one side of it to make it easier to topple over?

You can certainly try! Will just need a description on how you go about this. The ancient stone slab altar is smooth, weather-worn.
The altar mound is composed of large piled rocks. You can try! This will take a Strength check with disadvantage.

Flint can tell that the rope will slip off the smooth altar as soon as the ship starts pulling, and you will need some anchor points.
