Sorry if I didn't explain it well, but that's kind of the opposite of what I was recommending. I didn't mean to divorce Disciplines from ki, I just meant that replacing every single subclass feature with "you learn one more discipline" is a bad design. The only other thing that does this in 5e is sorcerer, which is also widely criticized.
Spellcasting classes get one feature that provides more options as you level. You can do the same with Disciplines so that when you hit level 6 you get a real feature instead of "you learn a new spell." For my revision, I tried to tailor the features to the other complaint that disciplines suck up all your ki away from your class features by allowing small discounts/feature combos without just totally drowning the sub in extra ki points.
