Every class feature/ability/spell I have come across always places "something" on "someone"
A few examples is bardic inspiration "you can inspire others.... that creature gains"
hexblade curse "Starting at 1st level, you gain the ability to place a baleful curse on someone. As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target is cursed for 1 minute. "
Now my issue is with VOW OF EMNITY. It does not specify that YOU get a blessing (or other suchlike word) nor that the target gets a curse/mark (or other suchlike word) only that you gain advantage...
I bring this up because if a paladin of vengeance gets polymorphed, would a previously activated vow of emnity transfer to the paladins new form?
By the rules of polymorph and the explanation of polymorph given many times in these threads no ability/feature etc from your class carries over to your new form. That said, vow of emnity does not say that the benefit is on you nor does it specify that it is on the target.
So would this voew transfer over or now. An explanation to either reason would be appreciated.
Furthermore, since there is no specification could the same "creature" be the target of 1,000 vows of emnity from 1,0000 paladins?
You declare you are using vow of emnity on one enemy you can see within 10 feet of you.
For 1 minute thereafter all attack rolls you make against that enemy are made with advantage.
That's it. That's all you need to know. It doesn't matter if they polymorph, teleport to another plane of existence and come back, transform into a God, become a devil incarnate, reveal they were actually somebody else in disguise -- none of that matters. You still get advantage on your attacks for the minute, because that's what the feature says.
barbarian rage has a similar wording "Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked Unconscious or if Your Turn ends and you haven't attacked a Hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage on Your Turn as a Bonus Action."
Yet it has been officially declared that a raging barbarian that is polymorphed loses their rage.
Yes, you still keep your advantage from VoE. Yes, the same creature can be the target of multiple vows from multiple paladns (the lesson here is to not piss of vengance paladins). The rules are pretty straight forwards.
Paladin is polymorhped into T-rex, replacing the paladin stat block with the T-rex stat block. Paladin character no longer exists, character no longer has vow of enmity.
Is the previously activated vow of enmity in effect for attacks made by the T-rex since they used to be a paladin?
"Vow of Enmity. As a bonus action, you can utter a vow of enmity against a creature you can see within 10 feet of you, using your Channel Divinity. You gain advantage on attack rolls against the creature for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious."
This has no concentration. It does not specify that you can't change form, that you have to remain intelligent, it doesn't specify that you need to remain a paladin or even retain the ability. You use your channel divinity to give yourself advantage against a specific target for a minute.
RAW, unless there is some clarification in the Sage Advice Compendium, I would say that vow of enmity would remain active even if the paladin is polymorphed.

When the Paladin turns into a T-Rex, the Paladin did not stop existing, they just became a T-Rex. If you toast a slice of bread, the “bread” didn’t stop existing, it just became toast.
How does that jive with the rage ruling though? Seems like rage was just specifically called out because of balance reasons rather than any kind of rule interpretation.

Could someone please quote or link to this barbarian rage ruling you speak of?
So hee is a question for everyone. If I cast vow of enmity on an illusion does it go off and does nothing (wasting the daily Channel of Divinity) and does nothing happen and you still have the daily Channel of Divinity?

Vow of Enmity states:
Vow of Enmity. As a bonus action, you can utter a vow of enmity against a creature you can see within 10 feet of you, using your Channel Divinity. You gain advantage on attack rolls against the creature for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious.
So you cannot target an illusion with your Vow of Enmity when you channel it. I would say the attempt to Channel it fails and nothing happens, thereby preserving that use of Channel Divinity as still unused.
Actually if you believe the illusion ( ie you don’t know at casting time that it is an illusion) you might be able to give yourself advantage - of course said advantage is going to make you hit it sooner establishing that it was an illusion ending its existence and the vow and advantage.

I would rule the Vow simply fails to channel instead of using the resource.
