QotD: Is it just me, or have these forums gotten a lot quieter this past week, week and a half? If they have, why do you think that is?
They have. I mean, Two Story Tavern of all places is D-E-A-D dead. Which considering it used to be like 50 posts a day is surprising. I echo Gnomarchy's sentiment about all the announcements and stuff should have made people buzzing. It may have something to do with the comment sections of recent articles, especially the ones with the arguements. But that is pure specualation.
Side Note: I went caving in Tennesee and because I'm a freakishly tall person, my neck and back hurt like crap. It was fun, especially "Bone-Scraper Alley". I feel like an old person.
Hey, It's me, RaccoonMaster! I'm back! I disappeared for a while there, but now everything's good and I'm trying to get into more games!

I believe Lord's Rest Inn is the new main roleplaying thread.
That's what it seems like. I wonder what happened. I haven't been paying attention much, but did one of the big names (IE, Wendigo, Alaric, ETC) switch to lords rest? Or was this a product of groupthink like the Drizzt phenomena?

Groupthink? Wha?
Lordâs Rest was always the Kitchenâs primary roleplay-focused tavern; it was the replacement for the Tavern at the End of the World when it died, which in turn was the replacement for the two iterations of the Tales of Adventurerâs Tavern. The 2ST came much later, back when people like Drum and Yon were more active.
Since a lot of older folks have been returning lately, they decided to revive Lordâs Rest and return to their original characters instead of introing at the 2ST, where many of the mods are infrequent visitors or long gone.

Ahh ok, that makes sense.
The Drizzt phenomena is that through some miracle, people who have never heard of Drizzt in their lives always manage to think up a Drow ranger with 2 scimitars and a panther companion. no one knows why. I think that instead of creating the trend, Salvatore may have been an early victim, because some have said they had the idea before Homeland ever was written.

- Deep Gnome Peace Cleric Entertainer. Was abandoned by troupe, which toured the under-dark as an indie-pop band. Was left in a cavern full of complete silence, and couldn't find a way out. For many days and nights, this character stayed in the cavern, hearing not a sound. Despite their job as an entertainer, this character hated loud noises, and was actually quite comfortable in the cave, eating fish with naught a sound to be heard. They began praying to the god of silence and tranquility and become an acolyte of them. One day, they found a mysterious horn on the ground, and when they blew into it, they became deafened and blasted open a hole in the wall, revealing a passage that went up to the surface. Ever since, they have tried to spread the word by getting folks to liver in quite contemplation, and smiting those who would disrupt tranquility and peace. They met the party at Deity's Slumber, a tavern famous for once having a group of gods, who were turned into mortals and then became adventurers to reclaim their godhood, sleep there.

For myself, life is pretty busy. Mostly work too. A lot of projects are coming to a head - and so, those moments I had at work to peek at the forums for a little, have all dried up and vanished. So my free time is from home - and usually when I am home, I am either in or more than likely running a D&D game. And if I am not running a D&D game, I am going through the recordings of the sessions I did run, and updating my website with the notes from those sessions.

That's not groupthink, that's a Jungian archetype within the collective unconscious. And also almost definitely ridiculous, considering drow and rangers are not things that people have much instinctual predisposition for.

I believe the first appearance of Drizzt was in The Crystal Shard 1988.
First appearance of Drow was late 1970s. They were mentioned in a few novels prior to Salvatore but I have to read them (Gord the Rogue) to know for sure. I read the first but have no recollection of it.
I thought then and still think they make awesome adversaries.

Drow have had a ton of rewriting over the years and all of them claim to be correct.
Example: When they first appeared, they only had one god - Lolth.
Years later people claimed that Drow had always had an evil god (Lolth) and a good god (Eilistraee). They will shout it to the treetops that this is and always was how it was. Just because Eilistraee is published doesn't mean she was around from all the time. You can always rewrite history after the first book has been written. This is one of those cases, Drow - 1970s, Eilistraee - 1990s
I can accept that she showed up later. Afterall, Corellon and Lolth are her parents.
Are you or any of your players professional artists? What do you/they make?
My DM (and fellow player in another campaign, and a player in the game I'm running) is a great artist. I've commissioned art from her a few times, and she's drawn various images of our characters in the game she runs. She did a Valentine's series of our PCs with their NPC love interests, it rules.
As for me, I wouldn't call myself "professional" exactly, but I have released some music, and I've been involved in music in various forms for over 20 years.
