Hmm...I'm going to go with goblins, :). so:
Long ago, a cult of elves, gnomes, and dwarves dedicated to the Lord of the Arcane gathered together in the plains known as the Verdant Paradise. They intended to perform a ritual to heal the Fracture, but instead they sundered the land around them, turning it into a wasteland. The elves, who were known for their guidance and wisdom, were turned into hobgoblins, ready to command. The dwarves, who were known for fighting the giants, were twisted into goblins, ready to slay the large. but the gnomes were the most transformed, as they stretched and grew fur over their bodies, until they turned into bugbears. strangely, they kept the ability to fit in small spaces.

Ooooh. Rather then take this to make a dramatic and epic tale, I'm gonna make a joke origin.
Once upon a time, there was a guy named, uh, I don't know, let's call him Jerry. Anyways, Jerry hated any form of reward. He didn't want adventurers to receive gold or magic items for completing dungeons. He wanted the adventurers to either not get a chest (at least, not a safe one) or not get to the treasure at all. So, he made a creature. A mimic, he called it, able to shapeshift into different objects. Upon creating it, Jerry exclaimed 'Gasp! Egad! Gadzooks!'. The mimic proceeded to nibble on his finger. In rage, Jerry threw it into a vat of radioactive Ye Olde Fantasy Glue. This gave the mimic adhesive abilities that allowed it to stick to stuff that touched it, such as adventurers. Jerry then got a very good deal ('I'll give you a mimic factory if you give me infinity dollars) and began a mimic factory to send into dungeons. Now we have the modern day mimic.

First, there was an inkling. The tiniest hint of a thought floating on the vast expanse nothingness, harbored by nothing but itself. This inkling thought itself greater. Soon, the weak inkling thought itself to be a notion. The notion became a thought, the thought became an idea, the idea became a conviction, and the conviction became a revelation. So great was the power of this revelation compared to its predecessors that it thought not just of thinking, but also of being, and so, suddenly, it was.
I wrote that with kuo-toa in mind, but it probably works better for beholders.

My homebrew origin for Cyclopes in Eberron:
Long ago, the Ogres of Xen'drik worshipped the 13 moons that orbit the planet. 40,000 years ago, one moon, Cyra, was destroyed in order to banish all Quori from the Material Plane. The Ogres that continued to worship Cyra after her destruction migrated to Droaam and outlawed the worship of the other 12 moons due to a religious schism. Eventually, Belashyrra took notice of them and began to send eyeball-shaped scrying sensors to watch these Ogres. The Cyran Ogres believed that these were messengers from the spirit of their dead goddess and began to offer sacrifices to them. Belashyrra then ordered the ogres to pluck out their eyes and that they would be blessed. The Ogres that agreed magically grew to ~10 feet tall and a magical third eye appeared in the center of their forehead that grants them Truesight.

DM's: what's the funniest lore you've made for your campaign, the silliest monster or encounter, something along those lines.
Players: what is the funniest character you've made? You don't have to have used it, but a character concept that was just silly.
Everyone: what is 1+1? (There's a deeper meaning behind this I swear)
Jen, you may know her teenage version from the Half Blood RP thread as the daughter of Hermes, was made to piss off my sibling, they visit this thread sometimes as Hecate173, as they were DMing a campaign at level 20, she was made for speed and can move 350 feet in one turn. I did this just last week so it's perfect. I had the players find a flyer in the city requesting help with a "magical mishap," and it turned out to be from a halfling man named Disch Wasch'er, one half of a magical invention duo. He and his business partner were testing a new instant-cooking device, but something went wrong and the other man disappeared in a blinding flash. Disch found no trace of him, but found a cat in the shop with a nametag: Mike. Disch's partner? Michael Rowave. So he thought the device somehow turned Michael into a cat.
Turns out, the cooking device had accidentally created a sort of demiplane within itself where the magical heat flowed through. A... hot pocket dimension, if you will. While investigating, the party got transported there as well, finding Michael, who was able to devise an escape plan with their help. Trying not to get cooked, they overloaded the device and popped back out. The device promptly launched into the air and exploded, and the completely ordinary cat named Mike who had just coincidentally shown up went on its way.
My players enjoyed it while also making several physical threats to my person.

I once made a human sorcerer who was a play on the Frog Prince trope. He was once a happy little frog who angered the wrong spirit. The cruel spirit wanted the frog to suffer so he transformed him into the worst thing a frog can imagine, a human. Now he goes on quests in the hope of finding a way to return to his true form.

Bats. One of the gods looked out upon the earth and found it to be overrun with rodents. So he gave a bunch of them wings to clear more room on the floor.
All the way to middle of page three… that was the farthest I’ve ever seen us. So, today we have both a Question and a Quest of the Day!
The Question: What do you look for in unofficial D&D products? Do you want new magic items, races, subclasses, spells, or even classes? Or do you prefer new rules and unique play style adaptations? Perhaps you just want a book that provides lore?
The Quest: Create a new subclass or race for D&D; something never seen before. BUT, do not create the statistics. Tell me about their lore and how they fit in alongside the other character options in D&D!

For the question: I usually look at the new subclasses, spells, races, lore, and monsters. I want stuff that I will be able to use whether I am a player or a DM. I don't pay a lot of attention to magic items because you rarely get to choose your own and it is super easy to homebrew something specific for your characters that won't be game breaking. New rules can be cool, but it isn't something I look for.

It depends on the product. For example, I own the two unofficial 5e Eberron books published on the DMsGuild by Keith Baker. In those, I mainly look forward to the amazing lore and deep dives into how the races/monsters of the setting are unique from their standard version. For example, I was really surprised by how interesting the Sea Elves are in Exploring Eberron. Baker's lore for the Sea Elves is the only time I've seen anyone make them interesting, even if it does rely on Eberron's High Elf and Sahuagin lore for it to be as good as it is.

Question: I tend to look for different stuff depending on what I need for my campaign. Or just make it myself (albeit probably not very good lol)
Quest: oooh. Uh, let's make a race.
The emulon (made from using Google translate and mixing around letters and stuff) are people designed for war. Quite literally, I mean, as they're beings that are literal humanoid weapons. Originally created by the war deity (insert war deity name here), however powerful mages figured out the secret to their creation and began using the emul(a? I? Ons?) To fight grand wars. Once the wars fizzled out, the weapon people went off to live in different cities, villages, etcetera. Different subraces would be different weapons such as swords, axes or bows. Typically they have the head of their weapon, their handle is the body with arms and legs protruding out of it.

In unofficial products I look for two things:
Something I haven’t seen before, something really unique and new.
Something to fill a particular niche that the official content doesn’t fill.
The callinectes are an interesting crustacean people. They have thick, protective shells that they malt whenever they enter a growth period. They also have an additional pair of heavy upper appendages that end in large pincer claws. The average lifespan of a typical callinectes is 30 years, though some do live much longer. Not much is known about their reproductive cycles other than they are hatched from egg clutches. Callinectes typically come from one of two different populations, either the ocean depths or brackish, marshy areas of land.
Many callinectes are born of the deep, murky waters of the world’s oceans, but are almost equally capable of life on land. Little is known about the culture, or cultures of these crab people, they are generally thought to be a nomadic yet noble people content to keep to the deep reefs they call home. What is known however is that periodically they do accumulate en mass and strike towards land with the force of the tide.
What triggers these mass armed migrations isn’t entirely clear, however theories abound. One such theory is that they do it as a means of cleansing their native waters since they often arrive bearing the detritus accumulated from countless shipwrecks to deposit on land, and take tithe in the form of fresh meat and useful materials that will survive time in the depths. The first sign of a callinectes invasion is often unrest in the local merfolk population, as they are often the first to be displaced by the incoming crustacean tide.
Other callinectes inhabit the swamps and marshy areas of the world. These surface dwelling callinectes are more accustomed to the proximity of other species. While there are some differences between these marsh callinectes and their deep water cousins in terms of coloration due to their exposure to sunlight, they are otherwise physically indistinguishable in terms of their capabilities. Culturally though, marsh callinectes are as varied as any other species, and most callinectes adventurers encountered by air breathers are from one of these cultures.

For the quest I’ll give you the flavor text of my next entry in the PC/Player Options category of the Competition of the Finest ‘Brews XX:
