D&D Beyond is the cheapest source of official D&D 5th Edition content in the world.
D&D Beyond character tool is completely free.
D&D Beyond has the most sources of official free content.
Your post saying it's too expensive just means you're going to be extremely disappointed when you realise it's the cheapest. 🤣
I'll add to what Cyb3rM1nd is saying with the information that anything you do not want to pay for, you can literally build for free in the free homebrew tool.

If you join roll20 you can get a character sheet that works pretty well. It is far easier to deal with custom stuff.
On D&D Beyond, to add a custom anything you have to leave your character sheet, go to homebrew section, and go through their create a spell/magic item, etc. It is a complete process that takes a lot of time. Then you add it to your collection, make sure your character sheet lets you add homebrew, then add it.
Much easier to just put the important details in roll20, no leaving the character sheet and you do not have to add everything, just the stuff you want.

roll20 doesnt have the right homebrew customization
Roll20 is designed to let you do ANYTHING you want. It lets you build items, races, classes for entirely different games and play them in your d&d game.
But it is NOT designed to walk you through how to customize everything. This means
It is FAR quicker and easier to make minor new items like a new spell that is fireball but cold damage.
You can easily put in new abilities, feats, etc. in the sidebar.
But if you want to make something complex and have the AC and to hit and charges alll automatically tracked, then you need to spend a lot of time setting it up.
Yeah, it does less things automatiaclly, but I can do anything on roll 20 that you can do on D&D beyond, in less time, but good enough to play the game. It won't track charges automatically when I use my custom Wand of Fire Wall, but I track the charges by hand and the ring gets made in less time for me to type out this post.
Make a list of exactly what you are wanting from a service. I see PDFs and now I see sharing characters... which a PDF can do. What kind of sharing? For what purpose?

Depends on what you want. There's a lot you can customise on the sheet directly.
Yes, you can. As kayakingpoodle mentions there is a Master tier sub - it's very cheap and lets everyone in the campaign share any content they have purchased. Without a sub you can also share any homebrew you make.
If the sub is too much, you can build it in your homebrew, work it out just how you like it, and then instruct your players how to build it for themselves. There is a free workaround for literally anything on this site if you are willing to put in the time.

the problem isnt depending on me willing to put in time but rather my players which dont have as much free time as me

Anything you make can be shared with them for free - so they won't have to.
We've said this and there's links to videos which explain it fully.

what i mean with sharing is sharing character sheets without having to download them every time
i think i came up with a free solution, im coding everything i want by hand on a google sheets doc which can share everything and have all the calculations besides xp because xp curves lol
thanks for some of the helpful suggestions though its just that the features of master tier is way too expensive for what it offers that being only sharing content the beta maps and stuff is way too awful to use for me.
Like literally. Seems like most GMs out there fund not only their own D&D addiction, but subsidize the D&D addictions of others as well. If you do not want to spend time and effort on Beyond, next best thing is spending time and effort at local community events and LGSs and connect with other people.
Even if you are a poverty stricken GM, if you mingle with another GM in real life (and assuming they got stuff on Beyond), they probably would not mind sharing access with you in a campaign. If they are like really busy with maxed out full campaigns, they can still significantly reduce your group's cost by joining your campaign, and your group will just have to pay for the Master tier subscription for however many months you need, and you will get access to all their stuff. It is like literally less than $5 bucks a month for access to everything the other GM owns. Beyond's Master tier sub is less than WOW, Runescape, HOI4, CKII, Ubisoft, Xbox, PS Plus, Costco, Walmart, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, NYT, WaPo, and PBS subs. The only subs cheaper I can think of is EA, Nintendo, and Sam's Club if you get their lowest tier.
Working one day at a fast food restaurant on the weekend will literally pay for Beyond's Master tier subscription for a whole year, and if you are in California, you can literally do it in half a shift. Hell, if anyone just plays around with their phone for a month or two at an easy temporary part time job, they can even afford the Legendary Bundle.

Myth-weavers has a free 5e sheet. You'll have to do most of the calculations and legality checks yourself though.

Master tier costs ~$5 a month, and you can, if that is too expensive then you may well be out of luck.
