...and I was so close to purchasing until the $20 option to purchase DM guide or Players Manual with an alternate option to only purchase the compendium of each book for $20? Huh? Why would anyone buy just the compendium when you can have the whole book? What am I missing? Is it the wording I am not understanding?

The whole book is currently on sale for the first week, after which they'll return to $30 each.

The DMG is on sale for $20 (US) for this week. After that it is $30. The compendium only price is for those who don't want the toolset, just a digital "book," and that price will presumably stay at $20 even after the sale on the whole DMG is done. This week, during the sale, it makes little sense to buy just the compendium. After this week, it might make sense for some purchasers, depending on what they want/need from DDB.
Why was there no mention of the Legendary bundle in this thread? I just bought all the sourcebooks that showed up on my mobile web view, but the legendary bundle wasn't there at all. Then I come home to my computer and find there is a Legendary bundle which also gives a 15% discount permanently for future purchases? Is there any way to replace my earlier purchase today with the Legendary Bundle for the extra $40?

Any purchase you made will be applied as a credit toward the legendary bundle. If you go look at it in the market place it should show a mark off equivalent to what you paid.

No need to replace it. The $40 you spent will pay forwards towards the Legendary Bundle. Since you spent $40, the Legendary Bundle is now $240, instead of the normal $280.
Do we know if we will be able to view content when not on line or will this be on on line only thing? After all if we have paid for it i would be nice to use it even when there is no internet available.

There is an app coming in the pipeline that will allow for offline access, however details on when that will be released are yet to be announced
Are individual purchase options for the maps (and potentially player "clean" ones if that becomes possible) something that might happen? Or will maps continue to be limited to Sourcebook and Compendium Content puchase options?
I'd love to be able to buy print resolution (or at least high enough for VTT options) copies of the maps as well. The ones currently included with the Adventures are a great reference, but they aren't really large enough to use in play.
I know that just about all of the maps are available from the artist's websites, but it would be nice to be able to have everything stored under one umbrella. Heck, I'm already dreaming about the official content from the Dungeon Masters Guild being integrated with Beyond.

If you click on the image to expand it and then open the image in a new tab, you get a pretty large version of the image. I don't think you get Player versions without the notation though. That would be nice.
Oh wow! I swore I had already tried opening the image in a new tab and getting something not that much larger. This is actually a very nice size for VTT and should print well, also!

Will there be both DM (labeled) and player (unlabeled) versions of the high-res maps?
The player versions are what's of the most use for VTTs or large printing for use with minis. I don't want my players seeing the labels, especially things like the locations of secret doors.
The maps will display as they do in the books.
We could look into adding the player "clean" versions where they are available to us. I'll see what we can do about that.
Player/unlabeled/clean versions of the high resolution maps may be something that will become available here in the future. Hopefully, Curse can work that out with WotC and the artists for us.
Well, I said I wouldn't buy D&D Beyond because I couldn't see the point (since I use Roll20) but I asked Roll20 2 days ago if there would be a PHB for Roll20 and they just didn't answer. I had to tweet directly at Nolan (Co-Founder of Roll20) to get an answer. His answer was that they have "ambitious plans" and no timeline.
Thus I used the competitive capitalist market to my advantage and bought both the PHB and MM from DDB instead. By comparison there is currently no PHB for Roll20, and their MM costs $50!!!
Their loss.

Ah ha! Thank you for explaining that. I didn't notice the discount was due to my prior purchase. Thanks!

OK you convinced me finally with the introductory deal.
