Being a old time D&D player but new to VTT I started to get into it a bit, having said that I find it dificult to find game play maybe Im still learning how to find them, but I was wondering how often do some of you play weekly how many sessions. As well as CP building and tweaking. I found myself putting alot of tyime in just with research alone. Just curious. Looking for your feedback..Thank you.
Ideally once a week for four hours per session, but it mostly depends on availability. If nobody's available, it usually means a one-shot rather than resuming the campaign without someone.

Zero is the most important number in D&D: Session Zero sets the boundaries and the tone; Rule Zero dictates the Dungeon Master (DM) is the final arbiter; and Zero D&D is better than Bad D&D.

My main group meets every Wednesday from 7-10ish, we rotate DMs from time to time. My other game is a PbP here in the forums and we play more or less continuously with some occasional lulls.
3X per week for 3 hours. I DM for 2 games and have been playing in a 3rd, but am about to start DMing for that one as well. I probably spend a couple of hours per session in prep.
My group plays about twice a week with additional Play-by-post play Sundays 9am-2pm using Foundry VTT and Discord for voice Thursdays 4pm-8pm using Foundry VTT and Discord for voice All days all hours Discord posts and DMs for lots of extra story and intrigue
I have three weekly games, one with 5 hour sessions, one with 3 hour sessions, and one with 2 hour sessions. The first two we rotate DMs and I am currently DMing the 5 hour game. I probably spend about 3 hours a week on prep not counting a lot of planning and worldbuilding I do when I'm not actively running a campaign.
A lot of my prep time is just making my maps and custom monsters work with the VTT we use. But if we were in person I'd probably be spending at least that much time on minis and props, so I guess its a wash.
Honestly, it's a little too much for me. I may very well bow out of one game at the first opportunity I can find to avoid hurting any of my friends' feelings.
twice a week, as a DM for 2-3 hours on a Monday and 2-3 hours as a player on Friday. Only just the 2 of us left now, but hoping to get a few more joining anytime soon.
we would do more but work and real life constraints are a pain.
I've usually got two to three games per week on the go, usually it's two as there's often one that has a scheduling conflict each week. I'm the DM for two of the groups, both in the same homebrew setting, and the third does rotating a DM setup with campaigns - each group's sessions are generally between three to four hours long.
Outside of sessions, I reckon I probably spend about an hour or two on most days planning for the two games that I DM - though a lot of that planning is often behind the scenes world building stuff that might not even come up until way later in the games (if at all).
We play once a week in person for like three to four hours each session. But we’re doing a special Ravenloft thing on Halloween that’s sort of tied into our main campaign but not really.

I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).
Been DMing the same campaign weekly for 5 years. The players level up about once every two adventures. All in person though over Lockdown, we played online and still do on the occasion if someone is on holiday or going to be late from work.
I understand the new D&D System will all be online. I'll have to learn more about it.

II like the way you run with it. I hope to DM a campaign soon myself. but I been started playing 3 X a week now.
2 times a month I dm I don't really get to be a PC accept at cons and stuff .I was part of a group but I had to move . My players made me make a otty oddertin npc that they dragged around with them after watching puffin forest they thought it be funny. Till things got to dangerous he had no class and was more like a pet so I was basically playing talking animal it's the closest thing I ever played to a pc since the move .
i'm currently at 2 games a week. A 3-ish hour session on Tuesdays and the prime gig is a 4-ish hour session on Saturday. Tuesdays are usually one shots and short campaigns. Saturdays are the big adventures, like our current 18+ month run of Annihilation.
6-8 hours a week. Currently running one regular campaign and playing in two. I also run the alternate campaign for one of the groups I play in. This is not counting the You Are In A Room forum game.

Twice a week, one 2.5 hr session that I dm, one 4 hr session as a player.
I do about 2 hrs prep per week for my DM'ing
I play twice every other week. around 4 hours pr session, both as a player.
As a player once every second week for ~4-5 hours
As a DM, once per Month for ~8 hours
