To be clear, l want to know which class list and spells you would choose if you IRL could have 2 cantrips and 1 lv 1 spell of your choice.
I would choose mending, mage hand, and shield from the wizard spell list.
Mending to fix things like dropped phones, mage hand to help with groceries or getting something without getting up,and shield to avoid damage if I ever get into a fight. (If mending were on the warlock list,l would replace shield with armor of agythys)
Edit:I forgot unseen servant existed! If I could have 2 1st lvs I would choose that also, and heck,if I was allowed one level in wizard instead,I would also pickup comprehend languages, find familiar and prestidigitation if I could.
Edit2: I only know 5e,and it's the current edition,so,though you don't have to,sticking to official 5e spells would be great.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
hex could have a lot of fun implications aside from bonus damage making people fail checks by imposing disadvantage. Prestidigitation has lots and lots of uses, it's a total no brainer. EB is what would likely be /used/ least, but being able to pew-pew pop cans in the back yard might be a lot of fun. Of course, if I got jumped, EB would be there for me.

I picked Vicious Mockery because it’s subtle, it will prevent them from attacking me, and it’s not likely kill anybody unless you really roast them. 😂 I gotta agree about the utility spells though.
But if you start splatterizing wangrods with a Hexed Eldritch Blast then the MIB are gonna pop up sooner or later. You’re likely to get locked in a warehouse full of warehouses getting studied and dissected for the rest of your life... if you even live that long.
If you ask my friends, family and colleagues, they would tell you that I am already proficient in vicious mockery!
EB is there for when that entices them to violence!

Prestidigitation because it's a dozen highly useful minor spells in one. Mold Earth because being able to move feet feet of earth in six seconds or less, at will, is actually a huge potential moneymaker. That's a tremendous amount of material to move with a wave of the hand - try to picture for yourself how big the backhoe needed to carry a five square foot scoop would be. That is a very large machine that you can partially replace by waving your hand. Construction companies would fall all over themselves to hire the Dirtomancer, and for a pretty penny, to boot.
And Unseen Servant because **** housework, though I'll admit that Comprehend Languages is a choice I considered. Just because it seems useful, and amusing from an 'I'm a total weeb' standpoint.

*Ain't that the truth.
To be fair, the same could happen to you with a cure wounds spell.... or even prestidigitation....
True, but those are more likely to get you a cult then the MIB getting you.

Guidance so I could help others with whatever they were struggling with.
I think Minor Illusion would be a lot of fun but it's hard to compete with Prestidigitation.
Find Familiar cause an immortal magic pet would be cool.
I'm not sure why Viscious Mockery seems to be a popular choice. It's certainly a fun spell, but we can already do the "fun" part without magic. But I suppose you could make the same argument about Guidance...

Guidance is on the cleric and druid lists (and artificer, but magic initiate doesn't say artificer) but neither list has minor illusion or find familiar. (Sorry for rules lawyering, but I felt it needed to be said)
Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost or Read Magic(This spell may be necessary), and Repair Light Damage(repairs constructs / reverses 1d8+1. With enough casting you may keep your house, car, computer, lawnmower, ect in mint condition?)
In real life I’d have to go with Mending, Prestidigitation, and Unseen Servant from the Wizard’s spell list. They would make my daily life easier. Cleaning would take a couple of minutes!

I thought this was about 5th edition D&D. Are homebrew permitted in this thought exercise?

I thought that general discussion was not just 5 e. There is still spell research, or does 5e eliminate this?
You can homebrew stuff in 5e, but for discussions like this homebrew is generally not allowed because homebrew can be absolutely anything. If somebody wanted to hombrew "instant riches" spell, they could and take it, and it sort of defeats the point of these exercise of what from the game (ie what you normally have in game not what you made up) you want in real life.
The forum isn't specific to D&D, but the site tools, books and references are so it's normally the default. Magic Initiate is a 5e feat, so using it for older editions seems weird.

Bard list, because my IRL Cha is likely higher than my Int.

Druid List.
Druidcraft so I can finally keep plants alive for more than 2 months.
Control Flames, because extinguishing a 5ft cube of fire with a small gesture sounds pretty helpful.
Goodberry. Always have food and drink ready. :-)
Warlock
Eldritch Blast, Presitigitation
Hex

(Artificer) Swordmage | Glasswright | (Barbarian) Path of the Savage Embrace
(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer

Wizard.
Mending, Message, Unseen Servant.
Mending because I break stuff too much, and it would be very convenient to avoid replacements and repairs.
Message because I would be able to talk to my friends while something boring was happening and seed paranoia into people I dislike.
Unseen Servant because I'm lazy and would like a get out of monotonous task free card once a day.
Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost or Read Magic(This spell may be necessary), and Repair Light Damage(repairs constructs / reverses 1d8+1. With enough casting you may keep your house, car, computer, lawnmower, ect in mint condition?)

Professional computer geek
Wizard list
Prestidigitation - easy cleaning, it's fun, it's versatile, etc
Mending - convenient, great to have, can make a business out of it.
Unseen Servant - because I'm lazy and hate housework.
