Greetings Beyonder's!
We've had another batch of updates and fixes roll out over the past few days! Here's the recap:
Changes:
After a lot of good feedback, we've consolidated the right-side panes on the character sheet into a single pane:
This provides for a more workable area and better presentation of the lists of data. In this view, we also consolidated the previous combat section into the Actions tab and brought back the grouped Limited Use tab.
With removing the combat section we've made the Initiative, AC, and Defenses / Conditions sections always present.
With this update, we also brought more full page views onto various tablet layouts:
And added more sub-filters into other sections, like equipment:
And added in a new section to help in managing currency:
We appreciate all the feedback we've gotten to date, and hope that as these usability improvements get deployed, everyone's experience with the new character sheet continues to improve.
We've also had a big batch of fixes get deployed as well:
- "Bonus > Melee Reach" modifiers for things such as bugbear trait are working again
- Fixed spells needing specllcasting ability modifier for all item, race, feat, and class feature spells, this also fixed the same problem with a sorcerer equipping a Staff of Healing
- Fixed Spell Sniper not doubling the range for all item, race, feat, and class feature spells
- Fixed item costs that come in bundles (ball bearings, arrows, bolts...)
- Added abilityScore to available snippet variables, it behaves the same way as modifier which means you could do "abilityScore:wis, int, cha" to get the highest score from the possibilities
- Implemented the "Stealth Disadvanatge > Remove" modifier for armor
- Updated The Powerful Build of Goliath, Firbolg and other to work with the Variant Encumbrance as well as the normal Encumbrance.
- Updated spells that are on items that are not attuned or equipped will no longer show up
- Improved pact weapon adds the +1 if there isn't already an existing magic bonus
- Removed more bbcode tags finding their way into sidebar descriptive text
- Update breadcrumbs on LimitedUse form when entering data bound to Racial Traits
- Allow negative values in custom skill overrides
- Fix issue with Unarmed Strike, Talons, etc., not showing on exported PDF
- Add Attacks per Action back to character sheet
We're still cranking away on all the great feedback, and should have another batch of updates soon. Thanks again!
And happy dragon slaying!
Thanks team! The sub-tabs on Equipment and Notes are just what the doctor ordered... however all tabs keep jumping back to the All sub-tab when you revisit them. Is there a fix in the works so it can remember what sub-tab you're on?
Awesome update!
Though it looks like with the new concentration tab on spells there is no way to just view spells that only lack concentration like you used to do with the old filter.
Also on filters, are we able to get filters on spell components? I just hit druid level 18 and it would be super helpful to know what spells I can cast that do not require material components or if you are in a silence bubble or restrained.
And with the new update there is no way to see an overview of all spell slots remaining with out scrolling. On the last one we could see them on all the tabs but that has been removed. So something like that would be nice
Keep up the amazing work
Adding the All filter for spells is exactly what I was hoping for!
Last week when fighting some Storm Giants, I was scrambling trying to remember which level certain spells were stored under.
Thanks for the awesome work!
Again, this is great work. Thank you so much!
Good grief, you folks are amazing! Thanks for everything you're doing. D&D Beyond just keeps getting better and better!
Let this be a lesson to anyone who complains about Curse.
Great update. Lots of things i wanted to see.
I was really hoping to also see the "Buy" button for adding items which will also decrease my gold coins. Maybe next week?
Also, i would like, and I'm sure others too, to see options: filtering options, sort options, display options (my Wizard doesn't really need to see the unnarmed strike and two weapon fighting actions, they're just taking up valuable space), and such...
"... we've made the Initiative, AC, and Defenses / Conditions sections always present."
Thanks. I kept having to switch back to the combat section to double-check those.
To move my thoughts over here: the changes look good overall and it improves a lot. However, is there a way to remove "duplicates" from the spell view? Seeing spells repeating in every spell level makes it crowded and hard to use - my wizard, who knows 27 spells and has 12 prepared, with 2 spells coming from wands, have over 50 spells listed, which makes finding the one spell I would like to use extremely hard to find. I don't want to know how messed up would this become at higher levels, where my level 1 spells are repeated 6-9 times, and my high level slots containing most of my spells from all levels...
Also, there's a fixed margin on both sides of the character sheet on Safari, making it add a horizontal scroll bar...
The money adjuster works nicely when you add money, but it can be misleading when you try to remove, as it cannot "break up" larger amounts, yet it clears the input. So if I have 1GP 2SP, and I try to remove 3SP 5CP, it will remove 2SP and clear the input. This gives the false suggestion that it removed the full amount (yet it did not); and even if I realise it did not, it does not help with calculating how much more do I need to remove.
Obviously, turning GP into SP and SP into CP to remove the remainders would be ideal, but that does not work all the time (especially with EP coming in the picture). As a suggestion, keeping the money that could not be deducted in the fields would be helpful. In the above example, after pressing remove, instead of empty input fields, it should show 1SP 5CP to indicate I still have to remove that much.
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. You guys are amazing.
Great update!
You all have done amazing work thus far, and I look forward to how D&D Beyond grows in the future.
In the sidebar descriptive text, is it by design that the hover links are disabled? I'd like to recommend the hover links still be active, especially with items such as the Bag of Tricks. It is cumbersome to have to go to the monster listing and search for the monsters. It would be much more streamlined if the hover link still displayed the monster boxes or if the sidebar provided a link to open the item in its individual item page.
Thanks for listening!
It currently is by design that they are disabled. It is on our list to get them enabled in the build / sheet.
Great work so far.
My adventurers and I are really loving the new character pages!
We just wish they would live-sync with everyone that has a common character sheet pulled up on their devices. Example, if my sorcerer uses a lvl X spell, then he clicks 'use' on his sheet, I wish it would update the spell slot usage on my instance of the sheet without me having to refresh the page.
As a band-aid solution for now, I have an auto-refresher extension on my browser, so I just set each character sheet of my players to refresh every x minutes (usually 10 minutes, staggered so there's breaks in between each)
Great solution! Funny, I have that extension installed and never thought to use it hahahaha! Thank you :)
You guys should add the Monk's Ki in the "Actions in Combat" section like with the Fighter's superiority die.
My only wish would be for it looking at least this "cool" when printing it out.
Otherwise, well done!
Would you guys consider implementing cookies that would remember that I want to the right side pane to always be pinned and centred?
Great job!!! Easy flow to use it. Still playing with it to get use to where everything is. Possible future add for Ranger Companion Stats? Thank and keep up the good work.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but in the free text areas, it'd be great to be able to have a rich text box or at minimum, support for BBcode. It'd make the areas more readable if they're formatted
