We've re-imagined what we affectionately call the "Face Menu" - where you manage your Character Settings by clicking on your portrait. This change had a few goals in mind:
- We needed to accommodate an ever expanding set of options for Characters such as Dice and potentially other experimental features in the future
- We needed to fix the menu experience for smaller mobile devices
- We wanted to standardize on using sidebars for all clickable elements
- We wanted a better way to visually summarize the character, your portrait, and classes/sub-classes
Also we have released some updates to the Character Sheet.
- We've removed unused buttons from the read-only Character Sheet that would cause errors.
- Added more compression on Character responses
- Fix for Homebrew subraces and race variants not showing on the select race page in the builder for characters in a campaign
- Implemented lazy-loading of known spellcaster class spells when possible
Looks great! It's slightly odd that it's a dark menu when the typical sidebars are light, though. Would it look too weird to standardise the background & text colors?
My big problem with this is that you put it on the wrong side of the screen
You can align it left like any other sidebar :)
It's on the same side as all the other sidebar menus now?
I assume they just find it strange that the button's in the top-left of the screen but that a sidebar then shows up on the right side of the screen when it's clicked.
The dice toggle is really stealing the show here. Considering you’re likely to use that switch just once, can we please move it back down the bottom?
Attack rolls won't work from Beyond 20 to Roll20
Agreed. Also, the portrait frames should carry over into the sidebar as well.
It's bad UX design, the old menu was a lot better.
I’m hoping this is a step toward letting us have full-body portraits as well as the cropped headshots.
Oh, so y'all can implement Dark Mode for one sidebar but not the rest of the site? I think you're holding out on us on purpose because you like to see us suffer!
So cruel.
I am seeing some bugs using beyond20 after the update:
dndbeyond_character.js:4133 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'Ranger' of null

Im having the same issue
I approve wholeheartedly of all these improvements 😎👍🏼😜
I don't understand how this UX works. I find it very awkward to use.
Usually the info shown in the sidebar is something that I want to keep on screen (eg: spell description, info about a feature I'm about to use in game, etc.) The menu is always leading to an "immediate" action, there is no point in keeping it "on screen". Now even just opening the menu makes whatever I was looking at disappear and it doesn't show again after I finished my interaction with the menu. Which I didn't expect.
As others have said, on desktop having to travel all the way through the screen to reach the menu we opened by clicking at top-left is very counter intuitive. Putting the sidebar to the left does not fix this, it just creates a problem for all the other times I'm opening, usually from the right from the screen (features, equipment, etc.) In all cases except the menu it makes sense to have it on the right.
Why not make things like the character portrait and dice rolling toggle SMALLER so that the whole menu fits on screen without the need to scroll? (when using XP leveling it doesn't.)
Lastly, clicking to open the menu, then clicking again without moving the mouse expecting it to close doesn't work. Which is also very counter intuitive for a menu.
Hey if they are messing with classes like ranger that might mean variant class features are coming soon
All this work for mixed results, and they won’t give us the non-concentration filter on spells users have been requesting for years (which would take minutes to code).
Nice update. Works great on mobile 👍
UX makes sense to me. Would be nice if clicking the cog closed the menu as well as opening it.
I like a lot of the changes but I really preferred the character edit stuff on the left side since that is where your PC's picture is. But still all great stuff.
Where is the Eldritch Knight subclass for fighter?
