I love tooltips, and try to use them whenever I create homebrew for my campaigns. I've noticed what I believe to be a malformed tooltip link for the 2024 rules for "Opportunity Attacks" and I'm hoping to either report it to the appropriate DDB staff or to be helped to understand this odd Tooltip.
It's entirely possible I haven't understood why the Tooltip for the "Opportunity Attacks" rule doesn't seem to work with [rules] tags the same way all of the other rules in the Rule Glossary of the 2024 Player's Handbook that I've used seem to work. Maybe there's a quirky intersection with the Public rules vs. the Proprietary ones and licenses? But, it seems possible this is a genuine and simple mistake in the Tooltips database.
The quick gist is just below. Details are further down. Any insights, advice, or helpful comments are appreciated!
tl;dr:
I believe maybe the "Opportunity Attack" (singular) Tooltip is broken in the 2 main ways:
It uses the [action] tags instead of what it should use, which is [rules] tags
Clicking the Tooltip Link takes the user to the D&D Beyond Basic Rules for Actions, which is inconsistent with other Rules found in the Player's Handbook's Rules Glossary
This currently works and is the only way I can find to make a Tooltip for OAs.
I believe the correction to make would be:
Use [rules] tags to link to the "Opportunity Attacks" (plural) entry in the Rules Glossary of the 2024 Player's Handbook
This currently does not work, in spite of that entry being the mouse-over preview

What Doesn't Work, But Should:
Using [rules] tags to surround "Opportunity Attacks" to link to the 2024 Player's Handbook Rules Glossary entry on "Opportunity Attacks" (plural).
Here is an exploded view of the what I think should work for Opportunity Attacks:
[ rules ] Opportunity Attacks [ /rules ]
I have added spaces inside the [ ]s to disrupt the tooltip for this example
Removing the spaces within the [ ]s in the above string creates a broken tooltip
[Tooltip Not Found]
Using the singular "Opportunity Attack" with [rules] tags results in a failed Tooltip
What Works, But Shouldn't: (Maybe?)
Using the "action" [tag][/tag] around the string "Opportunity Attack" (singular)
Here is an exploded view of the only currently-working tooltip I can find for "Opportunity Attack"
[ action ] Opportunity Attack [ /action ]
I have added spaces inside the [ ]s to disrupt the tooltip for this example
Removing the spaces within the [ ]s in the above string creates a working tooltip
Using the plural "Opportunity Attacks" with [action] tags results in a failed Tooltip
Why I Believe this Tooltip & Link is Malformed:
The Opportunity Attack Tooltip Should Use [rules] Tags Instead of [action] Tags
An Opportunity Attack is not an Action. It's something you can use your Reaction to do if certain triggers happen.
While this sounds nit-picky, all other values that you can use the [action] tags to link a tooltip to are full, main Actions (e.g. Attack, Magic, Dash, Disengage, etc.).
The [action] tags very much do not include other things you can do, like "Bonus Action" or "Reaction"
Putting these in [action] tags will result in a "tool tip not found" error.
That's because "Bonus Action" and "Reaction" have their own Rules entries in the 2024 Player's Handbook Rules Glossary
This means you can use the [rules] tags to create tooltips for them
But, "Opportunity Attack" also has a Rules entry
In fact, it's this Rules entry that is seen as the mouse-over preview on my "malformed" link above
So, why doesn't surrounding "Opportunity Attack" with [rules] tags result in a valid Tooltip? It does not.
Weirdly, while the mouse-over pop-up preview of the [Tooltip Not Found] Tooltip seems to show the text from the 2024 Player's Handbook Rules Glossary, clicking the link itself does not take you there
Instead, it takes you to the Basic Public Rules section on "Actions", which only mentions Opportunity Attacks in the definition of the Disengage Action.
