Syncing Entitlements
If you don’t see any of the content from the source, please be sure to resync your entitlements. You can do so by following these steps:
The following paragraph in Netheril's Fall is incorrect:
"For example, if characters step through the gate on the first day of Tarsakh, 1501 DR, they emerge in REDACT on that same date in the year –338 DR (which is 3520 in the Netheril Year calendar). The time gate in the REDACT, called the REDACT, leads to the port city of REDACT, also 1,839 years in the past. The year –338 DR is one year before Karsus’s Folly."
(This is in the ‘Relative Time Gates’ section of the supplement.)
A. -339 is Karsus's Folly, in which REDACT crashes, so it would be unlikely they would arrive there B. -339 happens BEFORE -338 (this is just how time works, both in the Forgotten Realms and reality) C. 3520 in the Netheril Year calendar IS -339 DR
---
The 'start' of the 'Netheril Year' system is zero-indexed, meaning Year 0 is -3859 DR, and Year 1 is -3858 DR.
This means that one way to date convert is to simply take '-3859 DR' and add the Nether Year, e.g. Ioulaum is born in 544 NY, -3859 + 544 is -3315 DR (Netheril Empire of Magic, The Winds of Netheril, p107.; Grand History of the Realms, p29)
The First Age of Netheril spans the dates -3859 DR to the end of -3534 DR. The start of The Nether Age (the second age of Netheril) begins at the start of the year -3533 DR (326 NY.)
I know why the first of these mistakes has happened, because someone at TSR in the 90s clearly made a small mistake with date conversions, and that mistake is hard to get your head around until you realise it's there. The entire timeline of Netheril only makes sense if the NY years start with Year 0 in -3859 DR, any other account throws everything out of whack.
