You have to use Maps to build your encounter. The problem is that you cannot run encounters from Maps as far as I can see. The players are all set to 16 initiative. The monsters are set to 10. There is no way to use the Map portion like the old Encounter program to actually run the encounter.
If the product isn't going to be done in time for the early access, then there is NO point to preordering.
The issue I'm having is that you cant see the encounter difficulty or any details about the encounter until AFTER you've already added the tokens. Its bass ackwards. You have to add things you want and then get to see if it is or isn't deadly. I tried adding tokens to add them to the combat, but once you "start" combat, it didn't change anything until I ended and restarted it.
I would like to see an Encounter Builder that is stand-alone, DMG 2024 aligned, and, as an option, linkable with Maps. Building an encounter in Maps is annoying, especially if you are not planning on using Maps at all at the current time.
Fully agree with this, it is wild that instead of updating the Encounter system they had to include it as an option in Maps, they've built a worse system.
I'd prefer if they went down the route of finishing the encounter builder, and then creating an import tool to the maps. Then people who don't want to play digitally can use the encounter builder as a tool and then can easily interact with the maps. The system they have now is making you use their maps even if you don't want to. I get it commercially but its pretty anti-consumer
I absolutely hate have to use the maps to build the 2024 rules for encounters. I use the standalone because I still run physical table top sessions. I mostly use the maps just as a tool for mapping, not running any encounters. If this is the direction they are going to keep, it will be extremely disappointing.
100% agree with the post. I use the encounter builder for live dnd sessions where we don't use maps. Please reconsider and make encounter builder a stand-alone program that works with our without maps.

I second all of this, I shouldn't have to go through maps when the tool already exists and just needs updated
