I've created a custom species, and they have an ability with several features that don't seem to be displaying correctly. 1) The trait is not received until level 5 2) I've used the barbarian's rage skill as a template, so some abilities - such as advantage on certain saves and resistance to certain damage types - ONLY kick in when the ability is activated. 3) I've set a limited use action with 2 uses. I've included the other elements as modifiers within the trait. Under "required character level" on the trait, I've set it to 5.
However - the advantages and resistances are showing up by default on a level one character using this species! How do I make them a) not show up until the ability is activated and b) not be available until level 5?
Any modifiers you add to your trait will be visible as long as the trait itself is visible. If your trait is showing before level 5, that sounds like you need to check the trait’s “Required Character Level” field.
If you want things to apply only while the ability is active, you could use Options instead. That would display a dropdown in the character builder that they could use to activate or deactivate the ability. Any Actions or Modifiers that apply only while that Option is selected would need to be moved into the Option itself.
On the trait itself, in the "Required Character Level" field, I've entered "5". It's not a drop-down there, just a text field.
The trait itself does not show up in the "Features & Traits" section of the character sheet. But the associated resistances and saving throw advantages DO show up in the Defenses and Saving Throws section of the main character sheet. Those shouldn't show until a) level 5 and b) the trait is activated as a reaction, but they're showing up at level 1.
