Can someone help me out? I have looked at the class pages many times but suddenly the way the page is laid out is throwing me. I don't know if I'm easily confused (sorry rules-remembering folks whose brains are made of denser mass) but it looks like maybe there was a format update and now I'm second guessing obvious stuff.
I've been on this amazing service since early days, so I swear I tried to figure it out!
If it says quick build before the leveling table, that DOESN'T mean that the features listed below are optional, right? The way it's arranged on the page puts a strange amount of focus on the Quick Build, but I'm 90% sure the "quick build" window and the table below are unrelated. But the Quick Build window is so brief and calls so much attention to itself.
Also, what does "CR" mean in the features column for Clerics? I'm seeing things like this and die counts where I didn't notice them before in the features columns for all the classes, and I think it perhaps needs its own column rather than being made into confusing shorthand next to the hyperlinked feature.
Again, I forget rules and need these to be a bit dummy proof, so I hope all the rules memorizers out there aren't just going to read this and roll their eyes! I swear I have played for 30+ years, but things like layout are important to the way I read and retain information! Hopefully someone understands the question and responds!
The Quick Build is meant to be a callout box, it’s a suggestion for how to make your character, but it’s not a requirement. Its suggestion for your main stat is always useful, but you can pick any background. The class table below is unrelated to the Quick Build, and is regarding the core elements of the class, and are not optional.
The CR next to certain Destroy Undead features tell you the challenge rating the undead creature must be at or under for Destroy Undead to actually destroy them if they fail their save. That info is also on the chart specifically for that class feature. It’s usually going to be more useful for the GM, not the player. They are listed this way in the book, not just on this site.
AAAAAH gotcha. I have always preferred figuring out my own challenge rating for things rather than leaning on that system so I appreciated that note! I know some people play this hard by the numbers and I imagine this is essential for them.
I'm usually the DM and I think there's just a lot to look at on this page. Like I said, I know that it's additional helpful information (I know the quick build there is meant to be just a suggestion!) but it's the layout that's throwing me. Thank you!
