I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a clear answer (the one reddit answer I found was old and wasn't clear) but what exactly is the point of the Armorer's "Armor Modification" ability?

I know it says you can infuse the pieces of armor individually, but can't a regular artificer do that anyway?
If an artillerist artificer wearing leather armor wanted to infuse his boots, he could just fine? if that same artificer is wearing a helmet (note: which is not a "thing" in 5e other than a flavor piece) as part of his leather armor, he could infuse that no issue.

So what makes the armorer's level 9 ability different?

Ultimately, yes, at 9th level.

• and those 2 must be on 'parts' of the armor
• and, as such, they can be don/doffed with the whole armor in a single action
• and they can't be removed against your will (like the rest of the armor)
• and when you make a new suit of armor into your arcane armor (this only takes an action), the extra armor infusions go along with it.
