My friend wants to play a goblin, not sure what class but is considering artificer, so I want to find out good builds for artificer any subclass(no UA). Firearms are aloud in my campaign.
One fun one to do is to be a artilirist, just enhanced arcane focus that looks like a gun, and fire ray of frost or fire bolt out of it. Then you can summon the force ballista turret as a attachment for your gun.
Artificer has one of the best lvl20 capstone features in the game, so if you are reasonably sure that the game will last to that point sticking to a monobuild is preferred. Being a half-caster also restricts multiclassing as you get a bit less from it than a pure martial or pure caster would.
This first one is a support character based on the alchemistsubclass to emulate a crazy goblin chemist. Essentially you are providing buff/debuffs and handing out your free gadgets to boost your party.
This one is a more "selfish" build that uses artillerist. Between your magic items and the cannon you can get some truly impressive stats. The cannon being a bonus action also allows you to either be an indiscriminate aoe machine or a very good single target damage dealer.
Goblin not having a bonus to intelligence does put you a bit behind, but not terribly so. The mental image of a bug-eyed, manic goblin pulling out a half completed creation is so flavorful that it just WORKS.

When the DM smiles, it is already to late.
