Actually, you only need a hand available to hold the spell casting focus, which in this case is your gun; and you can use that same hand to do the Somatic component of any spell.

This is partially correct. You can use the infused firearm as a spellcasting focus, and RAW you can use the same hand interacting with your focus to perform Somatic components of spells that also have non-consumed Material components. However, spells that lack Material but have Somatic components still require a free hand.
You would be correct, if part of the Artificer's Spellcasting didn't make all their spells require material components, more specifically, requiring a spell focus.
Tools Required
You produce your artificer spell effects through your tools. You must have a spellcasting focus—specifically thieves’ tools or some kind of artisan’s tool—in hand when you cast any spell with this Spellcasting feature (meaning the spell has an ‘M’ component when you cast it). You must be proficient with the tool to use it in this way.

All artificer spells require material components, either your tools or a focus/infusion. So blast away with spell bullets!
Thank you for teaching me something new! Capt American Battle Smith, here we go XP
Now to convince my DM to let me shoot a healing bullet from afar lol.
I have a Homunculus for pretty much this reason. He has a syringe in his leg that he injects a healing draught with for delivering Cure Wound for me and lands on peoples shoulders to give off a sonic frequency to flavor him delivering Sanctuary on someone.

Very good point, my brain blanked that part out since Infusions can be the Focus once you learn to use them.
Also don't forget of you go with a small race (ie goblin or gnome) and Battlesmith you can mount your defender as a mounted rifles character. Fast AF. Sharpshooter + fighters initiate (archery) is also great :) make up for not using ability score increases with headband of intelligence.
To get around the DEX hang up for the Armorer Artificer class, I chose a stout halfling. With the halfling you get lucky which almost means you can never misfire, if you haven't added the repeating shot infusion to your gun. I am essentially building a tiny Iron-man with a pistol.
My question for this class stems around the 2 attacks per action. My character uses a shield for added AC. On my turn to attack, do I get 2 attacks with the gun because it has repeating shot infusion?
Thanks!

Item: A simple or martial weapon with the ammunition property (requires attunement)
This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it when it's used to make a ranged attack, and it ignores the loading property if it has it.
If you load no ammunition in the weapon, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when you make a ranged attack with it. The ammunition created by the weapon vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.
Ignoring the loading property does make it so you can use two attacks with one weapon even with the loading property.
