My homebrew is terrible and really unbalanced and does literally nothing to explain the rules please don't look at it it's stuff like instantly killing someone and making their corpse a clone of you like a simulacrum but completely normal.
I mentioned this elsewhere, but I'll flesh it out more here.
Our newest campaign is an evil-character based story, and one of the players mentioned wanting to play a Skaven party (see here for explanation of Skaven https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Skaven); in a nutshell, they are chaos warped rat men who live under the cities of humans and plot to overthrow the world. They originate from the game system Warhammer by Games Workshop, and are a faction in their tabletop wargame, as well as a few computer games like Total War: Warhammer. The faction has a variety of different units that perform different tasks on the battlefield.
One of those units is the Warlock Engineer. They create and run the semi-magical psuedo-technology that the Skaven use in war, such as warpfire throwers (chaos infused flame throwers), waplock pistols (pistols that fire a bullet from a material akin to magical plutonium), and the warp lightning cannon (a huge war engine that fires bolts of chaos across the battlefield). Warlock Engineers both use magic themselves and wield these weapons in battle.
I decided I really wanted to find a way to play a character based on the Warlock Engineer, and after poking around, I discovered the Artificer is perfect for this, specifically the Artillerist. We're using a homebrew ratfolk as the base.
Using tools for all their magic mimics the psuedo-technological aspect of the Skaven magic.
Arcane Weapon with acid or poison mimics a warplock pistol well enough.
Infuse Item can mimic equipment enhanced with warpstone powered machinery.
Eldritch Cannon (tiny form) as the Flamethrower can mimic the warpfire thrower, while the Force Ballista can mimic the warplock jezzail (a longarm used by Skaven for sniping).
Spell casting will be skinned to be unpleasant. Like, Cure Wounds is performed with an auto-suture with way too many spikes and needles. Jump/Expeditious Retreat/Longstrider are sketchy rocket engines that belch sickly green flames. Faerie Fire is a grenade filled with powdered warpstone to coat targets in a glowing green dust. Etc.
Below is a photo of a miniature for the Warlock Engineer to help with visualization. The green gem things are warpstone, and the green pipes indicate the weapons are powered by warpstone enhancement.

That is a good idea
