Would love to hear everyone's idea about the best Race to play as a Twilight Cleric. I was thinking of High elf. Anyone have a better idea and why? Would love to hear ideas!!
I've got a centaur Twilight Cleric - the stats bonuses are good (+2 STR +1 WIS), you've got some built-in melee options, and once you hit 6th level the climbing issues from Equine Build go away. Don't know if it's the best race, but it's a good combo.
Are you planning on going into melee (if so with what weapon) or trying to keep the barbarian meat shield between you and the bad guys?
Are you panning on wearing heavy or medium armor?
Both the above can infuence your choice
If you are not using Tasha's optional rules the best races are those that gives a bonus to wisdom, if you are planning on using heavy armor and strength based weapons then strength is also good, if you are planning on wearing medium armor then dex and con are your secondary stats.
If you allow Tasha's optional rules pretty much anything is viable and a lot of what differences there are depend on the campaign and DM.
Taking the Centaur example, you might have issues if there is a lot of climbing involved. Even after level 6 this can be an issue if you ar ein bright light (your DM MIGHT say you can use twilight sanctuary to create dim light but he migfht say twilight sanctuary in bright light keeps the bright light in the same way a hooded lantern in bright light would).
As a twilight ceric you are not benefitting from darkvision you might get from your race, as a high elf you don't ge the benfits of dark vision but still get other things like fey ancestry, weapon training (if you want to use a longsword for example) and a wizard cantrip (booming blade is good for a melee cleric).
I think twilight cleric pairs nicely with variant human or custom linage. At level 4 and 8 clerics usually have ot decide whether to use ASIs to max out wisdom or get a feat to improve their concentration checks. These races allow you to get warcaster or resiliant con right from level 1.

A GM might say that, but it makes absolutely no sense to do so given that Twilight Sanctuary explicitly creates a zone of dim light.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

I'd think if you want to be strong (at least against the magic field) go for a yuan-ti pureblood. They have good magic resistance and plus addvantage with charm never could hurt. All races in my mind are good for cleric orders as long as said character has good constitution and wisdom.

Of course, Yuan-Ti purebloods get racial bonuses to neither unless you're using the optional Tasha's rules. Magic resistance and immunity to poison are nice, but there's nothing about a Yuan-Ti that actually elevates the build.

Having a drow be a Twilight Cleric makes a lot of sense since it takes care of your Sunlight Sensitivity problem. I play mine as a Cleric of Eilistraee which makes a lot of sense being a Goddess of moonlight.

I have a drow twilight cleric on the shelf. Its an interesting combo. Using the twilight aura to fix the sunlight sensitivity is a fun trick and worthy of exploration.
The other good approach is to stack twilight on one of the races with lots of goodies but no darkvision. UA Dragonborn, Halfling, Aasimar, Firbolg, Water Genasi, Lizardman, Triton, Githzerai. If you don't have access to the Tasha ability to redistribute ability score bonuses then Firbolg, Water Genasi, Githzerai, Protector Aasimar, and Lizardman pop out as excellent Twilight clerics.
I'm going to be playing a Satyr Twilight build in an upcoming Campaign. 35 move speed in heavy makes your speed 25 so you're just dwarf speed, and you get advantage on magic saves. Great race for it.

You need to check with your DM on that, there is another thread where a lot of posters say that Twilight Sanctuary in sunlight does not change the light level (in the same way as using a hooded lantern wouldn't).

Just because someone says that doesn't make it true, and that interpretation of the ability's actual wording makes absolutely no sense.

Being a game where the numbers are made up and the points don't mean anything. Pick your favorite race. If that race has racial bonuses, good on ya. if not, it is useful later.
Can also ask your dm if you can be a different race but use another races option. Like the game doesn't have anything if you want to be a plant based warforged, but worth a shot, Or a monster race made despite not being an officially statted creature. Race is a thing that makes no sense to care about and sure simply asking to be this race, but use a similar races stuff.
Plus it isn't so fun to be mega min maxed. Sometimes a little max mined is the more fun option. Since the hit points and damage is made up, and the challenge rating is not accurate at all.

I mainly chose it due to the possibility of being tankier build because of that magic resistance.

I would recommend the below:
I would also recommend Standard Half-Elf or High Half-Elf if you want to be a Face (Charisma character).

aesthetic wise i feel moon(pallid) elf. even though they kinda have conflicting spells as they both get invisibility and such but still!
Variant Human because it fixes the darkvision situation that humans are constantly meme'd about.
