Does anyone else think Tempest domain isn't a great fit for all sea gods, especially in something like a Greek setting where weather and the ocean are controlled by different deities? A cleric of Poseidon with lightning just feels wrong.
Depends on the campaign world and what you want your cleric to be. If you don't like the flavor of a Tempest Cleric in a nautical campaign, pick a different Cleric.
I agree quite a bit actually, having Poseidon have lightning related stuff feels wrong, even if he does create storms. Lightning is still Zeus's thing, and he is god of the sky. I guess I would suggest getting a homebrew subclass, or reflavoring another subclass too, but yeah it is weird that sea gods seem to be lumped in with lightning gods.
While tempest domain gods are described as the gods of storms, sea, and sky it is clear a god of the sea does not necessarily need ot be concerned with stroms you can flavort the domains as to see fit.
An obvious one to me is giving the abundance of life if calm tropical oceans nature domain might be a good fit for a god of the sea not associated with storms.
With my Aegir Cleric, I sometimes reflavor the lightning stuff he does as St. Elmo's fire. Of course the DnD rules do not correspond perfectly with all the Pantheons from human history, but you can do a lot with reflavoring...

Clarification for weather as specifically the winds, lightning/thunder, and other phenomena associated with the sky.

Poseidon was the god of storms in addition to the sea. Also earthquakes and horses. Dude got around.
The Elven deity of the sea is also a deity of knowledge and creativity. Deep Sashelas
I echo the Deep Sashelas suggestion. Works great thematically with thunder and lightning.
A Cleric of Poseidon, the God of Storms, knowing Lightning just feels wrong? If that feels wrong, how can anything feel right?
Some other deity ideas for Tempest Cleric:
And that's just from the Player's Handbook

Mind the 4 year bump.
