I'm working on a new PbP campaign, and one of my guys is looking to do an Echo Knight. He was also looking at the Ghost Lance. The main 2 Warlock I've read are the Undead, and for those who want a sort of HexKnight, to have CHA be their main stat.
Instead of Warlock, he was wanting to try the Gunner Feat, which sounded creative, and still have Sentinel. However, unfamiliar with the feat, I read about it, and whereas Warcaster allows one to make a reaction - opportunity spell attack, the Gunner feat does not. I was thinking about a homebrew/house rule, to change the gunner feat for that, and maybe limit it to a 1-handed blade and the pistol...not sure if a "pepperbox" is 1-handed, and if that's gun slinger, or could be gunner. Has anyone run something like this? Would there be some game breaking issues that I'm not aware of? I know EB gets 2 beams starting at L5, and can go up to 4 (not counting Quick with metamagic), but not sure how to do this, or if I should. TY!
A little off-topic, but my first piece of advice would be to not allow echo knights. They are poorly worded, and it seems like everything about them is an edge case that will require rulings on the fly. Not to mention, unlimited, resource-free misty step, in the hands of a skilled player, can be a huge mess. If your interested, there’s a thread here with more than 950 posts trying to sort out how it works.
But to answer your question, I’d not make any changes to the feats. Which feat you choose is a big character decision, and it seems like this player is trying to get basically 2 feats worth of features for one choice. This is even more true for a multiclass character who ends up delaying their feats and usually ending up with fewer feats. That’s one of the prices of multiclassing, and I wouldn’t do anything to lessen that impact.
On the campaign I'm working on, I had 2 questions about if people would be interested in trying the spell point variant, over spell slots. I'm trying it in 2 campaigns, and love it. However, for this, it's overwhelmingly for slots.
However, people are very much in favor of starting with a feat (we'll be at L3). Someone suggested that 1 feat from our background, and 1 from our patrons. Each person will have a "patron" that gives them their powers, or "unleashes their potential." So, the idea for him floating around came from the ghost lancer, vs ghost gunner. I think, since GL's already (mainly) established, and GG would require a lot of testing, that I don't really want to do, we'll stick to GL.
On the low-end, each characters has various traumas, and has been victims of various abuses, which will be how they deal with those, going forward. On the higher end, their respective patrons have selected them as avatars for battles to solve issues at the higher planes. The celestials and fiends have avatars, which can be the PCs. I'd eventually like to do battles against Tiamat, Sul Khatesh, and other high ranked fiends (using their avatar stat blocks), for that.
I actually did come across that, though I've not read much past page 2...TY for your thoughts!
